Title: Sound question/issue
Post by: Soulyss on July 14, 2011, 12:54:25 AM
It seems in game that whenever anyone keys their mic to talk on either tuned channel or range all my other sounds are effectively muted.  The volume is reduced so low that I can't hear anything but the person/people talking on vox.  I thought was just how the game was designed but tonight some other people made comments that seemed like it might be an issue with how I have the game configured in some way.

So the first question is "is this normal?" followed by "if not, how do I address it?" It makes flying extremely frustrating, I can't hear my engines, I can't hear flaps deploy/retract, I can't hear the stall buzzer, anything other than the person talking.  I tried turning the vox playback volume all the way down and I couldn't hear vox but when someone was transmitting I still nearly lost all other game sounds (they were still there just barely audible).

It's gotten to the point where I up from a field and just start squelching people just so I can hear myself fly.

Hoping that it's something I can fix on my end.

Picture is likely easiest way to hopefully fix this so:

Those sliders are likely the ones you want to mess with to get it how you prefer.  I prefer muted just so I can hear them talking (as displayed in picture), but to hear engines, etc, turn the top one up.

Sure 'nuff is.  :D

Myself, I have both set at mid-range or just a little less. I'd rather be able to hear quieter game sounds than none if there's some chatty-kathy on range or someone has a stuck PTT key.

Thanks!  I'll take a look tonight. :)

Don't worry I went through the same thing as you.  When this feature was added (recently) I noticed all my sounds were muted when I spoke.  I thought I was going crazy having not noticed that before!  I eventually found this setting and it took care of it.

*It was added with V2.24:

Added a sound slider for game volume when you are transmitting on voice.  This slider is in the voice preferences menu labeled as "Record Effects Volume".  This can keep your game sounds from bleeding into your voice transmissions and degrading their quality.
