Arming Yourself for the Zombie Apocalypse:
How to Build the Ultimate Survival Shotgun

=====================
Okay a good reliable shotgun is always nice to have around - for apocalypses or any other social occasions.
But can a shotgun also become an entire survival kit? Well Creek Stewart set out to find out.
For this project, I decided to build a survival kit using a shotgun platform-creating the Ultimate Survival Shotgun.
My challenge was that everything had to be included in or on the gun itself-no extra pack items or containers.
Below is what I did as well as the survival logic behind each decision.
And this is what he came up with:

In addition to ammo, flares, flashlight/compass, knife/bayonet, he also managed to stuff a complete survival kit
into the pistol grip and stock. This includes a multi-tool, saw, fire-making kit, and the following which all pretty much
guarantees a good time in Vegas:
4 x 6 Aluminum Baking Pan, Trash Bag, Fishing Kit, 2 Non-Lubricated Condoms, Water Purification Tablets,
Emergency Survival Blanket, First Aid Supplies, Carmex Lip Balm, Whistle, Small Bic Lighter, Paracord, and Snare Wire.

Shouldn't a bayonet reach past the barrel so you can conviniently remove guts, colons and other intestines? :)

Its not a bayonet...its a knife
Its mounted on the forward picatinny rail more than likely to help offset the gear carried in the grip and stock and balance the rig

Not to mention, not having your knife on your tac vest/belt saves the small bit of space for
something else that might save your life! :aok

2 Non-Lubricated Condoms
For the pre-heated wasteland chicks?

More weight and things to snag/get in the way on the end of the barrel that is utterly useless is a bad thing. You can put a knife anywhere on your body. Hell, he probably could've mounted its sheath on the strong side of the stock where it wouldn't rub against his body while firing. Oh, but he's already got some extra shells there. Yeah, mounting it on the barrel makes sense then, much more accessible than if you hung the sheath on your belt

Water? :D

Some people don't get it
It is not a Tac rig
Ready gear and grips are stratified.
In this guys world this is item #1 to grab if you can only grab one item on your way out the door-and into the woods
You can bet your boots this guy has a a fully stocked LBV, Ruck and other stash going down the list to fully kit out and/or be mechanically mobile
This is simply ITEM #1 grab
It frankly fulfills that mission quite nicely; it is not an offensive weapon system. It is a single item / multi-purpose tool
It is a Leatherman on Steroids
Stay focused

You yourself quoted a line that said knife/bayonet. :) It certainly is in the place for it. Anyways, the mounting should be further ahead. :t

...pre-heated :rofl :aok

Meh, I'll take my AK.

Mossberg 500.......at least he has good taste in guns :aok

wouldn't have gone with the pistolgrip though, love the system otherwise

Nice tool!
I'd like to know how he folded the baking pan though without getting holes in it. I'd substitute a large sheet of commercial foil. It could be cut to size as needed and a small stick frame could be used to hold shape if needed.

A shotgun is a great tool but I would have to go with a small bag instead of the gun carrying things like that pan. If it came down to it there is enough junk in this world that you can find a pan/pot, etc... even in some areas where humans have "never been".

What are the parameters for this Zombie Apocalypse scenario? Can the Zombies run like in the more recent movies, or are they classic Romero plodders?

Not good IMO, not only all the added weight, but not the best idea to have all your equipment in one easily lost item like that, all your eggs in one basket so to speak. My setup is to have my weapon be just my weapon, with no more attachments than truly necessary, alice gear for general equipment, then a backup of essentials, like another knife and a leg holster attached to my pants belt along with other items stashed here and there. So worst case scenario, even with the loss of weapon and alice gear, I would still have a good knife, essential items, and a .45 pistol. "Dressing in layers" applies to more than keeping warm.
For a "one grab" setup as you're going out the door, just put it in a bugout bag. But in a zombie apocalypse, I would assume that my AO would be the area around my house, and that it would not be a short-term event, so I would want to stay equipped as this is a wartime scenario rather than a flash event like a riot. I also live pretty far out in the country, so would not find myself necessarily overwhelmed by a zombie mob. If I had to leave for some reason, it would not be very difficult or time consuming to properly equip and supply for the trip. Getting my wife properly equipped and out the door in a reasonable amount of time is whole problem in itself though.
A shotgun is a pretty good close range defensive weapon, but in a zombie scenario, I'd still prefer to keep my distance. According to movie zombie lore, a head shot takes them down permanently (at least for my generation's movie zombie, things may have changed nowadays). So my weapon of choice would be a scoped M1A (M14), or an M4 if I wanted to save on weight/space for some reason. Of course in this scenario, my philosophy is that a good offense is better than a good defense, and I would prefer to clear my AO of all zombies, rather than keep dealing with the attacks and having to maintain a maximum level of vigilance 24/7

My whole thing is just WHEN and WHERE did this whole Zombie Apocalypse crap start up?
Nevermind don't answer that question because I know the answer.
I honestly can't see that happening due to a virus that we don't know anything about medically. The only thing I can see is a complete and total collapse of the financial system which would start up some massive long term problems which would create a much larger necessity of getting the heck out of dodge and making your way to areas where you would more able to live without needing to interact with large groups of people.
