I wouldn't hold my breath. Just the fact they're updating the B/E is good enough for me. I'd rather get no new P-40 models now if it means they're working on a G.55 or a Me410  :t

Nope, if they make the earlier and late versions of the p40 it will become a much more used aircraft, and can even fill gaps for other country's plane set.

I still want my hawk 75, and some of the versions it had.  :rock

I agree it can fill gaps in other country's planesets, but I don't think there is anything that will significantly increase the P-40's use in the MA.  It is simply too badly outclassed by things like the P-51D, Spitfire Mk XVI and La-7.

Of course, but it doesn't stop us from flying it, i would like to see the hawk 75 added someday too,as well as other french fighters, sure they all fairly suck vs. 44-45 ubber rides, but if it has wings, at least 1 gun and a engine, ill fly it.  :rock

Besides we need more planes badly for the early and mid war arena's.

Most of the planes in the MA may be of the P-51D/SpitXVI/La7/N1K variety, which makes killing in a P-40 difficult, but so satisfying.  The P-40E is actually the 3rd ranked fighter in my all time kills, behind only the Ki-84 and F6F-5 (shameless self-promotion). Haven't used it much lately but definitely will again after the update.   :x

Oh, I absolutely agree with you, I was just cautioning against unrealistic optimism based on BaDkaRmA158Th's "if they make the earlier and late versions of the p40 it will become a much more used aircraft" comment.  By no means am I arguing against new versions or derivatives of the P-40.

The P-40F did not get the same Merlin as the P-51 used. Early Merlins (Spits 1-5, Hurris, Lancs, early Mossies etc) had a single stage supercharger, like the Allison. This gave good performance at low/med alts.

Later Merlins (Spit 8, 9, 16, P-51B,C,D, later Mossies etc.) had a two stage supercharger, at higher alts the second supercharger kicked in giving greatly improved performance.

If the Mustang had been given the same early Merlin as the P-40F it would not have improved it much at all. Curtiss (and Lockheed) wanted the later Merlins but they never got them.

I got 6 kills my first time out in it. TBH, I thought it would be much more- the cockpit still looks a little blah but some awesome paint schemes. thanks aces high

I redid the cockpit once but it had some 60 modified, edited, or heavily edited files in the bundle not counting the exerior skin itself. HTC rejected it (I imagine because it was too much work for an old 2D cockpit!), but IMO it looked a lot better than the stock P-40E cockpit.

Hrm... I tried to find a screenshot of my efforts but couldn't The best I can do is a partial screenshot of in-progress work (by no means complete) of the custom cockpit:

Edit2: Just for comparison, the new one... They made a few improvements!

XP-40Q - Had a super charger two speed, bubble can, and 4 blade prop, never made poduction. Top speed was 422.

Edit: It was a Merlin though.

No, the XP-40Q was powered by an Allison V-1710-121, making 1,800 hp in WEP.

Brain fart, thought I was wrong. Kinda hammered though.

Anyone else find any hidden notes/names besides "WAFFLE" in the new P40E?    :D
