Well, found some wicked LW guncam footage but for some reason the link is wrong even though I copy and pasted it. Ill try to find it again.

Real gun camera film always makes me a bit sad thinking that folks are dying in those films.
I've seen lots of that before. It is always good to see that 38 turn inside the 190. Tried to pick him but was going too fast. I figure it was a 38 from one of the 9th AF Groups that flew ground attack. They seemed to always have the 190s and 109s above them.

:salute to pilots on all sides

I agree Gupp and know the feeling...its like watchin the IED/Roadside bomb attacks in Iraq/Afghanistan. Some of my brothers killed like that and im sure some of our fellow AH community bretheren's friends/family as well. I actually had found a different LW Gun Cam film last night where ya actually saw the Revi16 sight and it was intense of close those LW Pilots would close before they opened up. Saw some comments about how the LW are always misrepresented on shows like Dogfights and documentaries lol. I was too tired to tell them that Im sure while many German Aces got their fair share (and a good amount of em) of "good kills," most of their high donut tallies were from facing obsolescent French/Polish/Danish/Russian fighters and bombers before the Brits in 1940 and the Amercan's after late 42 began throwing pilots that had equal skill against them. No matter what, both sides had great pilots and we mourn the loss of both friend and foe always!

Man if you saddled up on a buff like that in AH you would be pooped pretty quick, wonder why not in RL?

I've seen these before...How about the HO between the Mustang and the 190 at 8:00?
These are sobering - it is not a game..

Yup. Amazing to take a look back into history, but real sad to know that these were very possibly, and likely, the last few seconds of someone's life. My mind brings me into the cockpit of the molested aircraft, and wonder what the pilot was feeling.
-
Put yourself not in the cockpit of the guy with advantage but the one being fired upon. Rather sobering, I can imagine the helplessness and absolute terror they must of experienced.
I did find the 190 vs P47 fight interesting, the attacking 190 went from lag to lead pursuit from the viewers perspective until he bled too much E. Unfortunately, for the Thunderbolt, the 190 was still able to rate his nose for a shot at that point.

Gonna show the guys at the Aviation Museum on Tuesday.
:salute

+1, I don't like watching anything more than about a minute or so of it. It's hard to watch people killing eachother on camera. :salute

They couldn't just hammer away like we can. They MUST worry about the gun's jamming, where we NEVER will have a gun jam. So they can only do short bursts AND be far more aware of the ammo than we. If you noticed, almost every attack made on the bombers from the rear, the German pilot fired on the tail gunner, not attack the wings. If I recall correctly, they were told to go after the gunners on a bomber when making attacks like that. Someone is bound to tell me for sure. I'm trying to remember where I saw that...

Those passes are faster than in the guncam footage. The guncam footage plays at 2 or 4 seconds for every 1 second it took in actuality, IIRC.
-
German guncam movies are played back at about 1/3rd speed. If you set speed to 0.33 in the film viewer (and zoom in), it will look very similar to the stuff we see on those guncam vids.

How would you do this with a Youtube video?

You would have to speed them up accordingly. So you'd have to grab them first and put them into any viewer/film editor that would allow you to do so.

Agreed, unlike AH, they are not going to reemerge in the tower.

Note that in most if not all of the tail end chases with the 17s that they were stragglers away from the formation. Also note that the ball turret guns were pointed straight down, which is an indication the gunner has been told to get out in preparation for bailing out. It's a suggestion that some of the crew may have bailed and the bombers were essentially being finished off. Of course it could also mean the tail gunner has been killed at that point.
Either way, nasty stuff.

Good point about the ball-turret gunner. I noticed the cocked angle of the guns, too. That explains it nicely.
