My Fellow Aviators,
It is with great sorrow and heavy heart to announce that my Dad has passed today at 87 yrs young. A European theater vet with a Silver & Bronze, he fought a courageous battle with Alzheimers the last 14 years. I sold my house back then and moved in to care for him, as I'd never let him be put into a nursing home. He started getting worse in Jan. which is why I haven't flown since then, but I felt it was the proper thing to do. One hightlight was when he gave me his medals and his captured Luger and I'll cherish these for my remaining time. He never would tell me about those medals or anything else from WW2, except humorous stories, in spite of the fact I too was in the service. He went on to become a TRUE Doctor...if you didn't make a lot of money you were never charged or sent a bill. He also used the 'barter' system for other folks...the "older" guys will know what that means. I just needed an outlet to share my grief with others who would understand. He will have a full military burial this week...and with my sunglasses hiding my tears, I'll be giving another WWII hero a slow, snappy salute as he fades away.
:salute DAD...I Love You.

Hawk, My sincerest condolences from my family to yours. Sounds like the world just lost a heck of a guy. But, reading all that you did for him for the last 14 years shows that his greatness has carried on in you. Theres no better tribute that you could honor him with. You can wear those sunglasses, but cry those tears with the pride of knowing that one of the best persons in the world, was also your father.
my thoughts and prayers are with ya sir.

Eternal Father, Strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bid'st the mighty Ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
O hear us when we cry to thee,
for those in peril on the sea.
O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word,
Who walked'st on the foaming deep,
and calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea!
Most Holy spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea!
O Trinity of love and power!
Our brethren shield in danger's hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them wheresoe'er they go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee,
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.
O Spirit, Whom the Father send
To spread abroad the Firmament;
O wind of heaven, by Thy Might,
Save all who dare the eagle's flight;
And keep them by Thy watchful care
From every peril in the air.
