Title: Schrage Musik
Post by: pembquist on July 20, 2011, 01:31:12 PM
Don't know if this has come up before but probably has.  How about putting Schrage Musik in the 110 as one of the ordinance load outs.  Give those evil Lancasters what for???

We'd need a different version of the Bf110.

I could see that being fun.  Yes I know it was used for night fighters, but still

I wonder what the downsides would be if any though :headscratch:

Due to lag, the blind spot under the Lancaster is much smaller in AH than in real life. You may very well be under the Lanc, outside the rear turret's arc of fire on your screen, while your opponent may still shoot you on his screen. In that case, lining up with the Schraege Musik  (that's the correct spelling if you can't type "Schr?ge") can end in disaster.

Edit: weird... forum can't display an umlaut anymore? Or is that just on my side? :headscratch:

Nobody would use it for that... Most would just game the game with it. They'd just try turn fighting day fighters with it, and shoot "up" into the plane that will out-turn them in a few seconds, thus preventing their own demise.

C'mon... Tell me I'm wrong. I dare ya!   :(

Gonna go with Luche and Krusty(again ) on this one, I cant see it working to any degree.  With the lag, and the turnfight part, i would never function even remotely as intended.

Although I see no purpose in it. We take everything in AH (besides heavy bombers) and use it incorrectly. The Bf-110 was an anti-bomber plane, the Mosquito was mainly a bomber, the Hurri IIC was used because the MkI the RAF wanted an upgunned fighter.

Gotta question with the lag then. If the 110 thinks its under the lanc but the lanc thinks it back within the arc of the tail guns then when the jug thinks its 1000 yards out does the lanc think the jug is 300 yards out?  I can see how upfiring (what were they 30mm?) cannon might make shooting down Lancs too easy and so best skip the whole thing, but I think the 110 could take the risk.

I currently can't find the illustration I made about about this topic, so let my try to explain:

Each player is seeing the other player a bit behind the position this player is at on his respective screen. So if the bomber is 100 yards ahead of the fighter on the fighter pilot's screen, it's seems that the fighter is 200 yards behind him...

I guess I have to make another picture lol

no picture necessary, I get it.  The Jug gets to shoot from closer in than the bomber right? I just stopped and thought for a minute and now I've confused myself again.  Its going all chicken and egg.  Two planes are closing on each other each sees each other further away than each sees each other on each others screen.  It made sense when I read it on the trainer site.  I get confused because each computer is in a little world just slightly out of phase with the other and it seems like one or the other is going to be ahead and it seems like it would be the one flying behind.  But then I think can't you imagine it as the fighter is being pursued by a bomber flying backwards.  never mind.

I've seen several characters now that it doesn't seem to be able to display all of a sudden.

I have a list of, IIRC, 900ish air-to-air kills by Mosquito fighters.  It most certainly was used as a fighter as well as a bomber, PR and strike aircraft.

pembquist, you see the other guys exactly your lags time behind where he really is on his side of the screen (say you got a 80ms ping, then the bad guy is (your lag+his lag) further on it's path on his end than on yours. If you factor in it's speed it can add up to a few tens of feet of discrepancy. Not too bad unless someone or you have very long ping time). There is a complete write up about this on the trainer side. It makes it all very clear.

PuppetZ,

It can be much more than a few tens of feet.  It can be over one hundred yards.

Not too bad unless someone or you have very long ping time

sure the discrepancy is a direct function of the total ping.

Closer to 1400 by my latest count - hope to be able, over the course of the next few years (that's how long it will take) to be able to split the confimed from the unconfirmed. By contrast, about 160 Mossies were shot down air-to-air, including some I suspect to be friendly-fire, which is another little sub-project...
