In my opinion I think its a cheap and stupid rip off of the UK, the characters are neither humerus in the UK sense or likable, also there's no James May character. I Also hear there's an Australian version of it as well? :huh

I only watch the British version. The US version is not available for streaming on netflix.

Yes, American Top Gears sucks some pretty large mammal. This is largely due to the colorless hosts, imj. THeir abysmal and one-dimensional nature is nothing like what you see with May, Hammond, and Clarkson.
OTOH, I keep forgetting to watch Adam Corolla's Car Show on Spike. I suspect he might have the good humor and panache to pull off a decent series - and you have to be a flatlining loser to make such a fun topic seem boring (yet ATG manages).
See, the interplay IS what sells Top Gear. This wasn't true in the Tiff Needell years. It's unimaginable the the ATG hosts, one example, would ever go on "Caravan Holiday" and make it anything approaching entertaining, much less the hilarious episode it was on BBC's TG.

I've seen reviews and tried to watch some of it, I wanted to smash a hole in my tv in disgust

If it ain't broke don't fix it, that clearly doesn't get that, cause they are making it worse

They should just air the Brit version of Top Gear here in the states. I would wager that it would be pretty popular. But the folks who are in charge of TV programming here are simply idiots.

They do on BBC America. I get that via Comcast - now even in HD (used to only be in standard def).

They really are idiots, CN all the Disney Channels, Nick, History channel, its complete bs what they were 4 years ago compared to now. Me and my friend are being funny and thinking of how to set up a law suit against Cartoon Network :rofl

Terrible compared to Top Gear. The reviews are comparable but the adventures lack entertainment value. You just can't script chemistry.

In case you weren't aware, the American version is produced by the same Top Gear UK people. It's the Brits that don't understand how to Americanize the series. They can't use the same exact script and expect it to look fresh. They need original American scripts and I hope that's what we will see in Season 2. The show needs a dominant leader like Clarkson and Adam Carolla would fit that role perfectly. He was in the original US cast that NBC dumped.
I watched the first couple episodes of The Car Show and Carolla was good. Overall it's not bad, but they were trying too hard to thumb their nose at Top Gear. The only thing missing was Tom Arnold and it could have been called "The Best D&mn3d Car Show, Period". FOX Sports needs to hire some new producers.

They have even ripped off some of the Brit's challenges albeit with a little modification. I agree that it is pretty lame but, if you watch the first few series of the Brit version they were pretty lame too. Clarkson carried the show and May was an uncomfortable clod.
I'm pretty sure my first impression is right, it will always suck with this crew, but I have hope that they will mature and come in to their own like the Brits.

It wasn't a rip off, it was the same script, same set, everything! Top Gear UK produces Top Gear US.

...Top Gear UK produces Top Gear US.
I get that. I just hate the fact that they came out of the gate by copying something that every Top Gear UK fan has already seen. They have really hurt themselves by not trying to make it it's own show.

I buy it too - otherwsie I doubt they could've used the name. Perhaps they'll adapt, but I'm not holding my breath. BTW, there is an aus version. One of the BBC episodes featured an Aus/England TopGear competition.

wasnt the only original thought of the series the episode where they went to alaska? from what i understand people in europe dont like or use pick up trucks like we in the US do.

There's a russian version too but just like the Australian and American knock-offs I'm sure it sucks.
