Title: Gv air support
Post by: zack1234 on July 25, 2011, 01:35:16 AM
If you up a GV and don't have close air support its your own fault.

Did the Allies not pound German tank formations in Normandy and beyond in Bombers?

I protected my squad mates GV retreat last week in a LA and recieved a moody PM.

I tossed and turned all night and awoke feeling terrible :old:

The ones who sent your Pm's can just get over it, they're just mad for not being able to get their easy kills!  :x

Yes. Lancasters were very effective tank busters while Flying in shallow dives on the deck chucking out 1,000 lb bombs like candy. That model was named the "Skankcaster". Even more effective was the three skank technique where'as all three would be controlled, via top secret means, by the lead bomber. B-17s and B-24s were almost as effective. While not having the same bombload their belly gunners were well known to hose ground targets with their .50s.  :lol

I can remember huge and wonderful tank battles being ruined by hordes of skanks in Lancs. I dont get it, with all the Jabos and tank killer aircraft we have in the game why not just play in a historical context ? There are dozens of jabos, IL2s, Hurri-Ds, Yak-Ts, B-25s, B-26s, JU-88s...ect Why the Skankcaster ? To much skill needed in the other planes maybe ? :neener:

Vinkman is right - this is not war, this is a game, and if the game allows people to dive bomb you in Lancs or to do other 'unrealistic' things that make your blood boil, then you have to either counter that (air support?) or suck it up and take your beating like a man

expecting hundreds of random people on the internet to play in 'historical context' is hilariously misguided  :rofl

Or they could just write the game to not allow big heavy bombers to drop at steep dive angles.. I dont really blame the Skankcaster pilots. They are paying their dime and doing nothing illegal. I blame the cheesy modeling.

I hope you don't think I meant that folks should "play in an historical context."

I mean your statement about not upping a gv without air support is a plan for not having a game. A person can't control whether they have air support because they can't control "hundreds random people on the internet" to provide that support any more than can to stop bomb tards. The answer to bomb****ing is not to bring you own plane. It's to make bombing harder. The reason it's called bomb"tarding" is because it's so easy a "tard" can do it. It's free kills for the fighter pilot with an egg.

If folks follow your solution, there won't be any GV fights as soon as a plane shows up. That will be fun for everyone won't it?

It's a computer game. Anything is possible. Instead of the answer being "don't play." Perhaps a small change would make the game fun for everyone so play would expand.  :aok

Easy peazy bomb tarding by fighters, and Camping GV spawns are serious game-play flaws in the game design. They should be addressed. Until then, folks point out these ducks-in-a-barrel scenarios in the hope that people will learn to respect their opponents, and play in a style that promotes fun for everyone.

But there are simply too many people who think irritating people is the fun.

Which is why these things need to be fixed in the code.  :salute

No sir, that was directed to the post before yours.  :salute

Which is why these things need to be fixed in the code.  :salute

Which is why these issues should be kept to Wishlist threads  :old:  instead of people constantly whining about 'bomb tards' , 'no honour' etc*

Until things change (if they ever do), GV fans are forced to work within the framework of the game that we've got and think pro-actively about how to combat the 'bomb tards'

*disclaimer: i've dropped 1 (one) bomb on a tank in my entire AH career

Amen.

If a cadre of  slowest-common-denominator players are only "irritated"
and  not "infuriated" then HTC has changes to make indeed.

Not really. Most Tiger I's, Tiger II's, and Panthers were abandoned or destroyed by their crews. Oh sure, aircraft caused a fair percentage of tank casualties, but its not the total carnage you seem to think.

The Allies did commit a large Operation to disrupting the Normandy country side, mainly to stop reinforcements as well as Train yards - most Tactical air support was done by Planes like the Typhoon and B-26, carpet bombing was even done by B17's on areas where there was a troop concentration.

Tanks were generally kept well hidden, however supply convoys on open roads were decimated by low flying aircrafts.

Funny thing is Hooter mentioned that the other day "uh oh you killed RedCatchr, if any dot comes on dar were landing"  :devil

I forget that one guy, I think joy or something who brought a Stuka back to bomb me, flew like 3 sectors and once he got 3k away I landed successfully, and he had no targets so he bailed and upped another tank in which I simply came back out the hanger and railed him a few more times, he repeated the Stuka run, then Pm'd me saying "This is hopeless" and gave up

Lol. Reminds me of V85 spawn. I had a panther defending the beaches right off our base and was bombed as I was firing at LVT's and PT boats. I then received a PM saying "next time don't try driving up behind our spawn you dweeb". Needless to say I was royally pissed, I rounded up AnglEyes, shemp, Ace8 and Devil505 and we bombed the living hell outa the spawn in retaliation. I think Komado Nowotny landed a total of 11 kills between the 4 of us.
