German V1
(http://www.cadframers.com/ah/kpics/image015.jpg)
Spitfire "tipping-off" a V1. If you've never heard of this insane tactic ....
At first V1's were shot down by gunfire. Optimum range was inside 200yds, which was marginal for survival. Many planes were damaged and quite a few pilots killed. Basically at such high speed and low altitude a plane had to fly though the explosion and hope.
With the high risk of being blown up some of the best pilots started tipping the V1's wing, because of damage to wing tips they later developed a tactic of disrupting the aitflow by placing their wing very close to the V1's wing, causing it to topple.
Not every pilot did this. At night this was not possible, the flame from the V1 blinded the pilot to everything else, though some Mossie pilots flew past closely in front of the V1, again causing it to topple. The thought of doing this at 450mph, 4,000 feet above the ground, at night and being blinded gives me the willies.

The Officers Club seemed the logical place to post this...but it is not the perfect place...
What the BBS lacks is WW2 Historical forum for posting images and discussing history of machines, equipment, battles etc
Maybe Skuzzy can warp HiTech into adding another forum explicitly dedicated to the discussion of historical content

Great pics - thought those Italian planes were SM.79s though?

This image is not from 1945.. This photo dates to 1950 or later as there are AD Skyraiders on deck and the Skyraider was certainly post war. This is a Korean War photo.

Easy guys...
If you have issues keep it clean
I simply got this set of images in an email
Perhaps I should check with Wild Wing before hosting the images and posting them out?
Take a breather and temper your come backs

Seems like whoever sent these emails need some research to do. Great photos tho

Tipping V-1s was done because the fighter drivers had run out of ammo. It was not a preferred tactic by any means, but a tactic of last resort :)
The tipping photos show up now and then, although I believe the first one is someone playing with a photo. I think they tried to draw a Spit shape without much success :) The last two are the ones that show up in books now and then and are clearly a Spit XIV
The rocket shot is from a Tiffie. Actually lots of those shots around. I got some from a Spit XII driver who ended up in Tiffies in 45.
Decent batch of photos though.

Mind you, this is wiki info but here it is...
Its heaviest munition was a 60 cm (24 in) diameter, 2,170 kg (4,800 lb) shell, and the range for its lightest shell of 1,250 kg (2,800 lb) was just over 10 km (6.2 mi).
The smaller shell was 54 cm (21 in).

Screw KARL...
Let's get going on the Gustav guns... :devil :D :O :aok :noid :x  :joystick:
Those things were BIG. Of course... It would require updating the train systems a bit...
