Ok. I don't know if everybody knows what they are, even though they should...
They were big railway guns built by Germany during WWII. Like, massive.

Can anyone tell me anything as to how they performed in real life, and would they ever be of any use to AH?

Ok...so I was told to consult the Almighty Google...great. I know it was an 800 caliber gun, took forever to reload, and both (Dora and Gustav) were destroyed. Tyrannis is the only one who read both questions, it would seem :P
How do you think it would fare in AH?

Honestly it wouldn't be in Aces high at all. Here's a little info on the Dora Gun - it took over 2500 men to help build the Embankment and lay the tracks for the gun, along with over 250 to set up the Gun for firing, also supporting this massive waste of resources was 2 flak batteries for air defense.
Also this massive gun really only fired a handful of times each time, problem with aces high although we have the shore batteries with a Line of sight and they fire directly at the target, where this railroad gun fired indirect - I would assume it would be aimed like an 8 inch gun without any line of sight, you click on the map and fire away and wait however long for a reload.
Its a wonder weapon like the Nukes or V-2 - neither will see Aces High, but nevertheless really cool to research.

Anzio Annie was I think a 580mm Railgun that the Germans used against the Allied Beachhead at Anzio. It may have even been a 280mm gun but look up Anzio Annie and itll show ya. I copied this from a page that had a model of the gun and all I can find on Wiki is Krupp K5 which just talks about the guns built...
"Anzio Annie" was the name of the German railroad gun that was used against the American troops during the amphibious landings at Anzio, Italy during World War II. The huge 28cm gun fired 550 lb. shells up to 60 kilometers, and our troops never did destroy, or in any way cripple Annie. The German artillerymen put Anzio Annie out of commission. Today, it can be seen at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds Museum, Aberdeen MD.

There's a Moscow in Ontario??
-
In Soviet Russia, place names *you*.

The more important question is if anyone argues with it, what can they DO about it?
Short of the Grand Slam, a MOAB, or nuclear weapons, theres not a whole lot they can do about it.

# Pop. 65. In Lennox and Addington Cs. on C. Rd. 6, 27 km. NW of Kingston.
# The place was settled in 1824 by Jacob and Elijah Huffman and frrst known as Huffman Settlement. In 1854 the name was changed to Springfield, but there was postal confusion with similarly-named places.
# The same year the name was changed to Moscow to commemorate Napoleon's retreat from the Russian city in 1812.

A couple of 500 lb-ers could probably give it a bit of a punch :aok
-
oh sure, if they were direct hits, then yeah. 500lbs of HE is enough to destroy just about anything short of reinforced concrete. But a near miss is just going to dent it at most. Even the KingTiger is a biotch to kill with a 500lber.
-
Gustav
it took 200hundred men 2weeks to set it up to fire ONCE
and an ENTIRE FLAK BATTALION to defend it
-
add it. two per country. it moves like a CV- only higher ups can move it and it spawns from HQ. it has ack like a Cv. would be awesome, no?
