Title: Sept 1, 2011 Cpt David McCampell raid???
Post by: mthrockmor on July 28, 2011, 10:30:57 PM
Below is a link to my all-time hero, Commander David McCampell, MOH. On Sept 1, 1943 he formed VF-15, where his command later grew into CAG-15. It was as commander of CAG-15 that he worked through the Central Pacific on his way to 34 confirmed kills and the Medal Of Honor. He achieved 'Ace in a day' twice, to include 9 kills in one mission. They flew off of the USS Essex.

Who is in for a CAG-15 raid on Thursday Sept 1, at 9 PM Eastern/8 PM Central in his honor? I am proposing we mass 36 plus Hellcats and go work something over. Of course we need a mix of Japanese planes to defend something. Likely a port with an airfield. I fly rook so the McCampell raid will need to fly from the Rook side. I know we are going to have some Corsair drivers wanting to horn in on this action but for his sake, just up in a Hellcat. How about a couple Japanese sqauds flying opposition? Aces of the Rising Sun? Let me clarify that this is not an SEC so will need to be flown in the Main Arena.

Any takers? Any Navy squads want in such as VF-17, or VF-222?

<S> to Commander David McCampell... and to the original AG-15... aka... the Fabled Fifteen... of which the original VF-15 Satan's Playmates were a part.  However... I am sure that the members of the AH Squadron VF-15... both its MA component and its FSO wing, will be doing something on our own... and WE... fly Knights.  We would welcome any and all to join us.

:salute Commander David McCampbell and the "Fabled Fifteen"

VF15 in game fly Knights.  But if we set up something, that would be pretty cool in AvA or something to the effect.  We'll continue to monitor this post and see what develops.  I'll send an email to the squad (VF15).

Although I appreciate your congrats. to Cpt. McCampell, VF-15 has for 10 years flown MA Knights and will contine to do so.  If you wish to honor the squadron, you can do so by flying with us on Sept. 1. I am sure we will have something very interesting planned for that night. Again your thoughts are appreciated but the squadron will fly Knights

I'll send a PM to plan this. Maybe let's get this moved to SEA or AvA. Let's not get this hung up on chess pieces. Plenty of Zeros and Georges to go around.

I think something in the SEA would be perfect.  Gives everyone a chance to be in on it, outside of the MA.
