This may seem weird, but I think the clipboard/E6B needs to be remodeled. To what? I'm not sure. But this last update has had nothing but positive reviews in my book.
An idea: Instead of a "piece of paper" that flags out of the left of the clipboard, maybe a little detachable window (perhaps shaped like an E6B plotter) with ground speed/fuel/etc still displayed. I know a few times I want the E6B but not the map (bombing). Just an idea. Open to thoughts/comments/suggestions.

Personally I like this idea, however learning how to use an E6B is not the easiest thing in the world and I'm sure most people who play AH would be against this idea. If you like you can buy a mechanical E6B ($5-$10) and make your AH experience a lot more realistic.

I'm not saying making people use it. Picture this: A E6B, and its susbesquent fuel window, speed window, etc. The background is just an image, but inside the window, the numbers change. Its just like it is now, changing numbers over a background. Purely cosmetic. Although it would be cool if the wheels spun as variable changed.
IMHO, a picture of an E6B would be better than a tan sheet of paper stuck onto a clipboard.
Edit** Here is a quick cut-and-copy with Paint:

Maybe add some rate-of-climb and speed charts to the top and bottom???

How would it work? If you have a mechanical E6B you need to be dialing in the numbers yourself and seeing what comes out.

All I'm proposing at this point is a purely cosmetic change. Instead of a piece of brown paper when you click on "E6B" with the numbers on it, a picture of an E6B pops up in a separate window. Numbers are still there, being fed info from the game like always.

why complicate things just because you guys are bored. most people all they check is speed and distance. and since most info is already in front of you... :D.

Raptor that looks great.

I too hate having to bring the whole clipboard up to view my flight info.

I agree with the idea.
After a few patches you can take it even further and have your digital readouts just as you show. But have the E6B automatically slide to the correct positions. In that way. using it as a reference to the digital readout. the average person might start to get some small idea as to how one actually works.
To reiterate what the OP is getting at. the player wouldn't actually have to manually learn and do the device. That would all be done automatically just as it is now complete with digital readout. But as changes are made in the flight. The device shown would be animated in such a way that it would correspond to the digital readout just as you see the stick throttle and rudder pedals move.

I take it you arent a buff driver? Climb, True Speed, and Range are the top 3 most important things to me as I'm in the bomb sight. And like I said before, I like to zoom in and keep the e6B in front of me, but i dont need the map.

I am a buff driver, I also hardly fly over 10k and if it is a cv 5.5k is just perfect. plan you route you make your pass come back if needed, I hardly ever get bothered. for you the mission is the flight itself. for me it is the drop. so I go in fast drop get the hell out, come back with more. in the same time that some people make 1 run, I have made 3 or 4 and none of them were drop and bail.
So glad HT wants people to concentrate on the fight itself and not on flying the aircraft. then again, whatever makes you have fun :salute.

My pref would be to make "fuel remaining - minutes" a separate pop-up (onto the clipboard) that is programmable to a control button or keyboard keystroke

The E6B should not be a fly out page from the clipboard...when you click it, it should be hosted in the main frame of the clip map like the hanger, clip board maps etc
Same with the task group routings
Paint them in the main frame of the clip board and give a "Back" option
The only reason a 'fly out' is warranted is when there is additional functionality that can be accessed simultaneously...such as when invoking the advanced features of a control setup
Zero logical reason to throw a fly out unless their are broader choices and the fly out serves the underlying command menu

Now, I know I'm not firing on all pistons today...but am I the only one who found that staggeringly illegible?

makes sense to me. :old:

all of it made sense... except B-17's comment... :noid :headscratch:
As eyecandy... I like it along with the clipboard interior frame being "painted" or "windowed." I do see the utility of the popout... perhaps one day a customizable clipboard...

I like this idea & would love to be able to map this function to a button on my HOTAS.
