Title: Custom arenas - disable enemy icons for everyone
Post by: lengro on July 29, 2011, 04:31:22 PM
- is it possible?

I found EnemyIconRange and EnemyLowIconRange, but they cannot be zero'ed.

An interesting question.....

I noticed that myself but haven't had time to test it out to see if FULLICONRANGE (settable to zero) kills the icons.

Seems as though you can no longer turn them off or set them lower than the minimums listed.

EnemyIconRange sets the range where you first see the icon.
EnemyLowIconRange separate icon range for when the enemy is below the RadarAlt
FullIconRange is the range where you see the sub-model of the plane, like P47-D11 instead of just P47

Apparently the minimum you can set them now is 3000 which is 1000 yards.

I know that's not what you want to hear, but when we tried icons at 800 yards in AvA the effect was very much like having no icons at all.

The 1000 yard setting may still get close to what you are wanting to achieve.

Well that very effectively ends the no icon debate.

Nope. The worst place to have an icon is up close. Spoils the visuals of the fight.

You can use still use alt-i to turn them off.

Defeats the purpose.  Unless everyone has them off, the icon people have an advantage.

At 1000 yards, the advantage for those that have icons on would be minimal, quite a bit less than it would at longer ranges.

Still, I get what you are saying.

While in some ways, I'm glad the bitter no icon argument has been quashed, I still hate to lose any options.

Wish they could code it so that icons could be turned off in the custom arenas only.

No need to code it only in custom arenas. The public arenas are ultimately controlled by HTC. All they have to to do is tell the CM's no icons are not allowed.

Either this was mistake in the code or a conscious decision to eliminate no icons without having to publicly announce it.

That too would work.
