Let the EPICosity begin.... or at least the graphics anyways...
http://www.worldofwarplanes.com/ (http://www.worldofwarplanes.com/)
I am scared for the flight modeling system they are going to use... it is either going to be a big hit or a big miss for us realism guys... but hey... you got to admit, aces high will never ever come close to WOWP graphics... nuf said there.
:airplane: I can't wait to try it!

No we don't have to admit it. They had said the same things, when comparing Il-2 to AH, and now AH in my opinion surpasses it graphically as well as the flight modeling. It's only a small matter of time.

These are the same guys that did World of Tanks and one of their main points is to eschew sim realism for game play. That is why the tanks might look authentic in WoT but the game is hardly realistic in any sim sense of the word. The same for World of Warplanes, it's not going to be a sim pushing for realism, it's going to be an arcade like flight model putting game play ahead of simulation.
World of Planes is going to be the same, though with a much more pretty eye candy wrapper.

What he said.
I also noticed that there don't seem to be any heavies of ANY sort in the game. :headscratch:
-
Looks like it's just going to be a game, I don't expect it to be anything special.
-
It will be advertised like WoT. It will get people into flying combat games, some will inevitably come to Aces High looking for something more.
-
I can just imagine the matchmaking whines, "why is my I-16 in a fight with an f86"

Looks to me like there's a bit of post-production work on those screenshots.

Why are there no German insignias on the Bf-109? :bhead

Russian made game so i wonder why.

All the perk rides you want , no skills required , just spend about 30 bucks a month I'm guessing .

don't like those graphics, prefer what we have in AH. If you want to see really nice graphics have a look at cliffs of dover.

AH still has the best flight model of the lot though. Even FSX has a less detailed flight model imo.
-
If you can get it running on top graphics settings, as my friend has finally managed to do, it looks BEAUTIFUL.
-
Man didnt HTC get a patent here lol

I agree. I have a feeling that it will attract large numbers of players but I expect the kids to stay and the adults to tire of it and find Aces High.

WoW launching FA trying to come back what is the world comming to. Crap most likely.
-
IL2:Cliffs of Dover is very nice lookin .. love the instrument panels .. the screenshot of the hurri down in the grass is pretty amazing compared to our flat world surface in AW long ago.
We've come a long way.
I still want my Holodeck :)

This is going to hurt FA like nothing else...FA is going to get stuffed like a hooker during fleet week when this goes live...Arcade flight model and everything is right up the alley they are shooting for or so it seems.

Unfortunately, many will go there instead of ever trying AH. Hope HTC is advertising some.
-
If its even remotely accurate, us AH guys will have a massive advantage over the average run of twits.
-
Cliffs of dover looks soooo much better

LOL! Like the poor Ltraktor that got stuck in a Tier 5 battle full of T-34s.

Pretty graphics for sure, unfortunately it's got a crappy flight model and pretty much a crap game.

It would be nice if AH had those beautiful clouds like in Cliffs of Dover or in FSX.

The unlucky ones that purchased Cliffs of Dover would probably rather enjoy AH's graphics, as it would mean that the game would at least be playable and not stutter at 10fps with the beefiest of gaming rigs.

Once you've gotten to the AH standard of graphics, I think its fine to stop.
I personally don't care if I can see my reflection in the glass of the houses, or see my prop blowing the tops of the trees around.

This is a great point. Back in the days of Everquest, every time a competitor came out with an MMO, at first people left for the new game and subscriber numbers dipped slightly. But very quickly people came back in much larger numbers than what left. Three things happened: original players came back who didn't find a game they liked better, new players to the new game came to EQ after being told about it, and the market for MMORPGs expanded. After this happened a few times, the EQ staff publicly said they looked forward to more competition, because they became better off each time a new game came out, even when the competitor was actually good.
I expect the same thing will happen for Aces High. Of course the big cautionary tale is that when the one really good MMO came out, World of Warcraft, it didn't turn out so well for Everquest. But WoW's success was built on really great design and technical competence above and beyond what Everquest ever delivered, and the perception by gamers that Blizzard never produced a bad game. I think the only one of those that World of Warplanes could possibly do better than Aces High is design, so it looks pretty good for HTC.

Thing is .. a company of fanatics would really have to burn long and hard to top what Aces High delivers.
It's not somethin you can just slap together with a few models and a bit of terrain.
It has become an awesome sim.
Aces High graphics have been improving almost every patch ..the model upgrades look very much like they should, finally :)
(now all we need is a video of that King Tiger runnin over a sheep
..with gibs!)

Seconded, except I feel they're far from fanatics of the genre and more in it for a dollar of their own. I doubt most AHers would get as immersed into playing it as they do with AH.
-
Most likely be the same as WOT, fly around in external mode then zoom in to your gunsite to shoot. that way all the development can be done on the external eye candy and Flight model. has anyone ever seen the inside of a WOT Tank?
-
The P-39 in AH looks better than the P-39 in the WoWP screenshots.
Not impressed.
