It's a 93 SVT Lightning, #2312 of 5276. It's just a big Mustang, that hauls.

Almost looks like a ranger with that small cab and 6' bed.  That hood though, too long to be a ranger....  thing should be a beast if you put some work into it, good find.

The Lightnings came factory with GT-40 intake and heads, but they are SD.  Looking at switching over to MAF in the future, but for now SD will be ok. There's no e-check near me so the cats are going bye bye, and I just ordered a set of long tube headers, and a new set of flowmaster 40 series.

Factory ratings on these were 15.7 in the 1/4 and 240hp 380ft-lbs, handles like a 93 Mustang, pretty fun truck really.

dood. you can make that thing run into the 12's, and do it stupidly easy. not necessarily cheap, but definitely easy. since you're already doing headers, also think of a cold air intake. try looking for one of the old ford motorsports ones like they used to make for the mustangs. it's a TRUE cold air intake, as it gets the air from outside of the engine compartment.

the one i had on my gt had a scoop mounted just on the bottom of the front airdam. it took me from 12.7's down to 12.2's. the other cool thing with the cold air intake, was that i could FEEL it, honestly more than i felt any other mod. from about the top of 2nd gear on up i could feel it.

this has an automatic, right? if so, and you don't want to run a stall converter, you could go to 3.73 rear gears, and run either a b303 or an e303 cam. i had the x303, but although my car passed emissions, technically speaking, the "X" cam is not emissions legal. it has a friggin BEAUTIFUL lopy idle too.  :devil if you run that cam with an automatic, you're going to need at least a 3500rpm converter.

did you know that your engine has a roller cam in it from the factory? or at least it should.

A built lightning is what one of our club members was racing at the track when our member's engine let lose as he crossed the line. He was several car lengths ahead of the lightning and good thing he was. His tires were oiled and the car hit the rail on left and was thrown across to rail on right. Then back to left which layed down and sent him airborn to the left. After several flips the camaro was totaled. He was over 120 when the engine let go. He escaped with bumps and bruises.

Lot to be said for harnesses and roll cage along with helmet and other safety equipment.

WE had a guy in a 67 mustang......was a high 9 second car......first pass......engine let loose, oiled the slicks, car flipped, rolled, did all kinds of groovy not so fun stuff, including throwing the driver out....then landing on him. somehow, the improperly mounted harness got past tech.
had a big block chevette, same almost......engine let loose, car rolled....hit a tree off the side of the track, in the shutdown area.....right where it hit, it caved the cage, and broke the drivers neck.

This member was lucky he hit a small tree and took it out. His was a 2010 camaro that normally runs 10 second quarters.

One week later he had already replaced it with a 2011. It'll be going into the shop soon to install his heads, whipple SC, and have the axles and tranny worked over.

His car was and is an A6.

Oh is he by no means the fastes, quickest, or most HP 5th Gen Camaro.

We have another in the club that was the fastest 5th gen in the world till recently. It is 1015 HP at the rear wheels. It is currently number 4. Another is a Hennessey we have that has dyno'd 1040 RWHP and over 1000 ft lbs tq. These are street cars.

I was just refering to the wreck when racing a lightning. :D

Hi Jack away...I enjoy hearing about cars.   Its not a problem.

The truck has factory 4.10s and a e4od, which I'm more of a stick shift guy than anything.  So I'm thinking of converting it to a TKO-600, seems like it could be a fun idea.

At that point then I don't need an ECU to run the trans, so I can run a Mustang 9AL ECU, and big MAF.  I also just ordered some underdrives and still looking for the cold air fit from my 89 Notch I used to have. Also doing a little engineering for some long bar traction bars for the rear end. Seem that being ultra light in the tail equals craptastic 60ft times.

Then after the TKO swap I'll really dig into the engine.  Coast Hi Performance has a really nice 427 stroker kit for 351Ws.   Overall I want the truck in the 11s, which would be sufficent for 4,000 p/u.

I thought the street legal camaro record is around 7.7 by a LMR (late model racecraft) car.

Of course, street legal and "equipped with all factory comfort items" (non-stripped) are pretty different from each other.

big difference as i'm sure you know, between "street legal" and daily driver.....or even legitimately street legal.........

LMR does have the quickest now I believe. They are also in Houston and do work on some of the club cars.

Here is a new article on the car I am talking abut....

if i'm not mistaken, there's a local company just up the road from atco raceway(they are there), that's built several "street legal" mustangs that drop easily into the 7's.
there is(or used to be) a shop that specialized in grand nationals, and regal t-types, doing the same to those.
found this by accident, looking for examples of cars that craig built.....

I think LMR's other camaro (twin turbo)  went 244mph at the last texas mile.

Still not even close to our 252.9mph official run and further yet from our 270mph unofficial runs.

Look for the standing mile record for cars to end up around 280 by year's end.......and be held by a ford.

That said, a motorcycle went over 300 recently.
