I got a 1979 10th anniversary Trans Am for my 18th birthday.  First thing i did, was cut the catalytic converter out and put Goodyear wing foots on for tires.  It was a 403 olds, but it had some good torque (320?).  For the time, it handled great with the new tires.  Besides the corvette, it's one of the first USA cars with four wheel disc brakes.  I watched the old Smokey and the bandit movies, and out ran about 20 cops, but was caught on the 21st.  Think it cost me about 200 bucks....

...and mail boxes do a lot more damage to your car then you think....

I never got caught but I remember a friend who told me that fairfax police had a special interest in an opel manta they suspected had a V8 swap.

Funny.....I drove an 11 second mazda RX-2 at the time.....which is a dead ringer for the opel manta.
