The 1st Air Commando Group was formed to support British Brigadier Orde Wingate's second "Chindit" operation in Burma. This involved 20,000 British and Commonwealth troops being dropped deep behind Japanese lines to disrupt enemy bases and communications. For this to work air support was vital. The RAF couldn't or wouldn't give Wingate the support he needed. However the 1st ACG proved very effective, working closely with the ground troops. They were a mixed unit consisting of P-47 and P-51 fighters, C-47 transports and L-5 cooperation aircraft.
The 1st ACG aircraft carried a distinctive five diagonal stripe marking on the fuselage. This was a pain to get right on the AH P-47 as it suffers badly from barrel distortion particularly right at the top of the fuselage. Its not possible to get the stripes to meet at a point at the top but its not too bad. This particular aircraft was from the 5th Fighter Squadron.

very nice scheme.
only flaw i see is at the merge on the spine of the second blue stripe. might need to put that one line of pixels on the left top side at 50% opacity to give it an effectively lined up merge if the actual pixels are offset to much to let it lineup with full opacity/fill.

Is the fuselage star on the left side higher than the right side? From the aircraft's bank angle I wouldn't think we'd see any of the fuselage leftside star insignia.

now that you say that it really does stand out....
-
Also looks further forward based on the panel line at the "peak" of the top star point.
It could be an optical illusion, though, based on the funky shapes of the spine.
-
when the nitpickers go out in force like this it means its a skin they intend to use a lot I think :)
the stars are lined up precisely on each side based on hstab and that vent on each side of the fuselage.

Thanks guys, glad you like it.
It is an optical illusion, the LH and RH fuselage insignia are in the same place relative to everything else on the fuselage. The cross section of the Razorback fuselage is like a teardrop, it curls in and then back up to the apex at the top. That makes the whole thing look a bit lopsided from the angle the screenshot was taken.

The D-11 has a bit of stretching on the spine that affects the Star and Bar. I'm trying to wrestle with it right now myself.
-
I reduced the height of the part of the star and bar that's above the bar by something like 33% to overcome the distortion effects. That's the point where the fuselage goes from being almost vertical to closer to horizontal. Getting the diagonal stripes to look straight was trickier, they zig zag all over the place on the bmp.
BTW what aircraft are you working on Cactus?

"Bouncin Bette" of the 318th FG 19th FS.

Very Nice...6thFS after 1stAGC regrouped. :aok
Edit: the 1st ACG had B-25H's as well. Maybe you could do the whole lot C47 and B25h?
If we only had the "A" pony we could get that in there also.
