Just picking nits, but the 92 is the anniversary edition, which actually is nothing but a couple badges and heritage stripes. Make sure you get one with dual cats and 4 wheel disks.

Sure the F-body is a cheap starting point for a really fast car build but the engine being being shoved under the cowl and the interior's lack of space is just not for me.

Car and driver put down a 13.4 quarter mile and it performed pace car duties in stock form where most all before had performance modifications to do that duty.

Meanwhile ... ebfd11 will go have a beer :cheers: (see previous page). The V12 is quind of a dud on the E type, the straight 6 was much more capable for performance ... but the 12 sure runs smoother.

nope....I have left 3 chevy's on the highway/road with blown motors....hell one of them I shattered the crank shaft, it couldn't handle doing 125 mph for 10 minutes.....toughest engine I ever had/saw was the 340 in my challenger, that thing was unbreakable....it took 125 all day long and then some.....hell 145 all day long if I asked it to....

No joke. I had an 89 IROC Z28 with the T tops... Not as fun as they seem when you're buying the car.

the guy in the bay next to me did an oil change on a duster. i forget what year, but it had the slant six in it. he finishes the job, ships the car out, and the customer leaves.
the shop owner comes out about 20 minutes later, asking about the duster. it seems that the owner drove it home(about 8 miles), noticed a rather loud tapping noise, and called asking about it.
the dude swore up n down he put oil back in it. i kept telling the shop owner to have it towed back in. shop owner want back to the phone, and told the guy to bring it back, so we could check it out.
he pulled into the parking lot, the thing was SCARY loud. i whipped it into the open bay, and checked everything......no oil.
the guy forgot to put oil back in it. i pulled the filter, pumped some oil into it, filled the engine, and prayed. after about 15 minutes it started to get quiet.

rather amazingly, it got totally quiet, and the guy was still driving that car every day.

THAT is why i like slant 6's. :aok i've never seen another engine drive that distance under those conditions.

Post by: ink on August 15, 2011, 03:26:04 PM: man you woulda loved my Challenger, serious, that engine was insanely strong and tough I told ya been cross country back and forth a couple times in it...and never did I treat it like a classic trailer queen, I will never forget doing 145 plus for 19 minutes that trip should have taken an hour, Gasa Grande AZ to Tucson AZ :O

besides literally for 6 years I hammered that car, engine never let me down, one of the biggest mistakes
in my life was selling it.

ya Stampf's Charger is awesome as well, sadly I stupidly sold mine many years ago....I still have dreams about it to this day....never sell that thing, never ever sell it :old:

Yeah, a 900+ HP Suzuki is pretty awesome.

As for the race I think that Rhys Millen was on track to beat Tajima -or at least make it very, very close- till he lost brake pressure. No doubt Monster is one heck of a driver though. It was kind of a neat win in a sentimental way too, considering what Japan has been through this year.

Speaking of Pikes Peak, is anyone else a little sad that this was the last year with dirt? I miss the old all dirt days, gonna be 100% pavement next year. :cry

thanks dood.....i do have to make one correction though......those drag radials....i kept them on all summer, but for obvious reasons, not in the winter....so in the winter, she had normal street tires back there.

still........pretty dam good for a car that saw every weather extreme that new jersey could throw at it. :aok

Yes, it may not be the fastest meanest wildest ride out there, but it has more torque than strictly needed for road use and that makes every ride a fun challenge in itself. :aok
And it's reliable, never failed on me. I have it parked inside my garage during winter, but I fire her up about once a month during wintertime. And it has been as cold as minus 30 degrees C inside that garage, there was even frost on the engineblock when I opened the hood. But just pump the gas and run the starter for a sec, then do the same once again and WHAM, the Ford runs like it was mid summer. :aok

Actually, quite a lot came over here. First the 1200, then the 1600, then the 1500, and in the middle somewhere the Niva. Then the Samara, which was a surprizingly good car for the money.
I had 1 x 1600, then one 1500, then a 1600 station.
I drove them to pieces, and surely they had their vices. But on bad gravel roads, they were a marvel, you just had to get used to the suspension.
In those days (1990) I often visited a friend (read girlfriend) in the farmlands. It was mostly a bad and curvy gravel road with some parts sand rather than gravel. Distance was 16 km, average travel time 8 minutes.....
I managed to torture the 1600 to 170 km/h, and my speed record on gravel was like 155.
I am all into Subaru's now, and they are good. But I do notthink I will ever be able to top my rally driving in a Lada 1600 ;)

Thanks for the compliment :aok. It's a funny thing between the two sisters, they draw completely different crowds in the same magnitudes. I had them both parked together at a car show this weekend, some would walk right past the other to look at one and ignore the other and vice versa. The real nuts and bolts gear heads and the younger crowd tend to hang around the FRC, with it's supercharger, alcohol injection, airbrushed hood and engine compartment, etc. etc. The ones that appreciate the classics and nastalgia and the older crowd, gravitate to the 69. That's why I love having both. By the way somebody brought up a 458 Italia Ferrari up there, I likey a lot :O

I've driven a coupla big block C3 roadsters ..once when they were bran-new
'68 roadster w/tri power 427 4-gear had no traction in any forward gear with those bias ply G-60's ..awesome fun to drive :)
Salesman was a bit pale when we returned :)
..second was one I helped build and tune for a customer, '69 coupe 1050 dominator fed 427 with a good hydrastic cam and bits, automatic
..120mph cruiser on the hiway, front end started getting a bit light at 150, tire tech had finally caught up a bit ..it hooked fairly well. (early '90's)

The C5 I have now just does soo much better in every area.

We used L-60s but had to slightly relocate the E-brake cabling and trim some bodywork slightly......I think on the inside of the fenders.

L-60s easily fit on the 1973 and later cars.

I replaced the p90 option G60-15 red stripes on my 1969 427 caprice with L60s on the 8 inch rally wheels and the flared fenders of the caprice easily contained them.

There were also the guys who back-halfed their mid-year Stingrays and stuffed 12" slicks up under 'em behind a nice runnin Rat ..scary fast.
Watched one o' those show a Hemi Road Runner the way home one late nite out on Union Hills .. Vette had asked me earlier if I wanted to run and my lil firestone cheater slicks
had no chance, then when my Hemi actually got a grip (he was about 3 cars out already by then) ..he kept pullin away. Got my '67 Hemi GTX by 7 cars or so.

The Road Runner had 12" slicks also .. but that lil stingray w/shorter wheelbase and comparable power just ate him by about 5 cars.
Guy in the Road Runner was *pissed* off .. was tellin everyone he ran low 10's and frankly, it wasn't all that.

Guy in the Vette was very cool .. very much a gearhead like me.. we compared notes ..he laughed about the Road Runner dood
..Vette owner said he ran 11.0's in the Vette on most days out at Beeline.. if he got a good bite in first.
Like myself, he had a list of things he still wanted to do .. more carb, more cam, better heads ..the usual :)

Beats the Veyron SS (and just about everything else) around the track, at about one TENTH the price. Yet still has all the features you could ask for, unlike track cars like the Atom.
