Title: Battleships
Post by: HORSEMAN on August 16, 2011, 05:42:25 PM
I looked and this subject has been discussed quite a few times since back in 2006. What I would like to see is a setup where you could buy basic battleships in drydock. from there you could purchase such things as armor plating, gun size such as 12", 14" and even 16" guns. Other things such as advanced types of radar, AA, Engine types, and the list goes on and on. There are so many varibles that would make it exciting and HT could really benefit from the added cash. What if you had a scenario where if someone sinks your ship you just lose it and that it! it would sure make a person or group of people apply strategy when taking it to sea! Thoughts?

CV groups are already being hidden off of the map edge, and they are free. What makes you think people would be willing to risk losing a BB that they actually paid money for? Especially if it is lost after being sunk.

I'm more than happy to have different task groups but unless a vessel in actual war was on its own (like subs or lct(r)s) with the exception of PT boats do to there size.

This is the part that made me think he was suggesting additional money payment.

<snip> and HT could really benefit from the added cash <snip>

As this was part of the past I'm gonna say he does not mean payment in "perks".
If it does come to this, I'm glad Warren Buffet and Bill Gates fly for the Rooks
these days. :)

   Guys,
Perks or cash or a combination thereof, my point or what I mean to imply is more thought and strategy than some guy upping a battlewagon and carelessly sailing into a disaster. Right now it's kinda like the rich kid who's daddy bought him a vette, he wrecks it...so what? Maybe a cash for perks or aquired perks situation? How much worse can it be...right now you can have some guy take a fleet out and lose it for nothing...i.e. the rich kid!

It will be the rich kids spending the money/perks to buy the BB so they can own the casual players who either don't have the money/perks or wont spend the money/perks to compete with the rich kid. The way I see it, this idea would turn away more people than it would encourage strategic game play; not because the player can use a battleship, but because the player had to pay extra for it.

That being said, I would love to see more variety on the naval side of the game. Shipping convoys, subs, subhunters, Battleships, escort carriers; the list goes on. Some of those things are not feasable right now (subs, landing craft) because of how the game is played or how the game coad works right now. Maybe we will see things added to the MA as the game evolves over time, I have seen shipping convoys in FSO so its not that far fetched.

I think you need to play AH a bit longer. I don't think you are entirely familiar with the game mechanics and the gameplay environment. The fact is, there are many people who are extremely timid in game despite the fact that everything in game is pretty much free, albeit the rides that cost perks. Perks can easily be farmed though. What makes you think that people are going to use something that they have to pay money for? It's just another excuse to play the game more timidly so they don't lose their $10 battleship.

Battleships would be cool to have simply because of the punishment they can deliver and the punishment they could take (unless the subs get to them)

Plazus,
You are absolutely right, I probably do need to play this game a bit longer...but with a due respect sir, this is a wish list forum, and I can hardly see anyone spending even a small amount of money say $10 dollars as you suggested just to do nothing with their battlewagon..and if they did just nothing to risk their investment then they certainly pose no viable threat. If they do get bold then it would be the perfect opportunity to wreck daddy's vette. Yes? In short I do not mean to make this a game of monetary strengths and weaknesses, just am throwing ideas out to see what happens. either way I do think the addition of battleships regardless of how they are aquired would make the game more realistic. I also think it would make the destruction of fleets a bit more realistic and add a new and deeper threat from the water. thanks for your input, it is obvious you know this game well.

Respects,
