Well it is that time of the year when i get bored and look to do something different with my case. So I started modding it and so far all I have done is the door and I will be working on posting pics as I go along.
Here is the 1st of many installments
(http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/749c5a919804cff4cda6d741e012874e9577c7c4428af58d1951071e4b2169d32g.jpg) (http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=c3khd3ib7m8j5up&thumb=5)
It has a black stripe base coat and metallic red cover coat and 3 coats of clear on it. The silver will be replaced with a metallic film to throw more light off from the light rope I have in there.
Where you can see white around the edges around the door I will using blck pinstripe tape to cover up my boo boo's.
The interior will be painted also I was thinking on maybe a dark blue and have white laser LED's in to highlight it.
All these are just suggestions, and thought they might change in the process of modding.
I also bought some heavy duty tubing to replace the slack jawed tubing that was shipped with the water cooling.
I will post pics as I progress. I am also going to get my triple monitor stand set up and working.

hey feralpigsfeet what kind of paint do you use? spray can? that looks cool, and I am crazy enough to try to paint mine.

Semp
I used the krylon for plastic as the base coat and then used Metal X paint for the red color... it has sparkles in it ..lol
-
there's a holiday coming up, gonna used it to re do it. gonna paint mine brown so when i dive into the red cons it will seem less obvious.

OK gents here is an update
The first one shows the interior was painted metallic silver and stiffer tubing used in water cooling. I also switched to deionized water and UV additive so when my lights show up it will be florescent blue.
I had to salvage one of my old fans from another case but ohhh well.

Paint job on top and front panels.
Here is the back of the front panel to show how I trimmed it out.

Now this panel I have to redo since one of the local little schleprocks came by and asked me if the paint was dry. Before I could say no....smudge... friggen little road rat should have been slapped.

No light shots

I did notice after the trim I need to remove the lower grill and paint that red also .
So what do you think??
-
awesome job lawn but grills should be different color. since i cant let you have a better system than mine. I am painting mine red ( :D) but the inside is metallic blue. all grills will be metallic blue also blue. reason for inside being blue is because all my fans are blue. but I am thinking of switching to red fans now..no, no,no maybe green, or...
semp
-
Yeah a metallic blue for the grills would be a nice touch.

or keep[ing them the black that it came with.... but then again you may as well order a red Phantom.
lets see the metallic blue grills...

Masonz
That is a custom paint job... black stripe underlay with a sparkle metallic on top.. the pic don't do it justice. I wish you could see the hi-res pics..LOL but our BBS won't allow me to post it.
Lawndart again....FeralPig has died..LOL
-
here's the top of my puter painted red. not finished yet as it still needs the clear coat. grills are being painted metallic blue, but are not installed yet.

ill have an excuse to fight the monster and work on my wires if i paint the inside :rofl
maybe a metallic or Candy blue. an intense blue but keep my grills black.... :x
where to get it around me without buying from an auto body shop though. not sure if the hardware stores around me carry it :uhoh
couple questions. paint job is smooth as a babies arse on my case, should i still smooth it out a little more with say 3k sand paper just to smooth it out a hair bit more before spraying it? obviously after each coat sand it down, but how many coats of paint and clear coat? put a coat of clear coat between layers of paint? and how many clear coat layers for the final touch? want it to shine like a Royce off the floor if i can do it :devil
-
!@#$#$@ got a bad can of clear spray and ruined the paint job on front and upper sides. I gotta start all over again. I am so disjointedness. the fricking can just burped out the clear and now it has a texture on some parts. gotta sand it down and redoit.
get the paint from autozone or some other automotive shop. they have a good selection of vinyl/upolstery paint. better than homedepot or lowes.

just talked to a friend, hitting the local Napa store near my girlfriens tomorrow morning before i go to her place. maybe ill get lucky and theyll have some 3k sand paper and a few pads if it isnt that expensive so i can start it tomorrow night after football if i dont go down to see her.... :x
Lawndart, have you tried removing your grill from the panels to make spraying easier? i could tape off the grills to avoid getting paint on them and/or my fans, but thats a lot of grills to cover up on the case if it would be easier to remove them :lol
-
your case is brand new, i dont think you ahve to sand it. mine didnt have any scratches so I just painted it. and you must remove the grills if you gonna paint them different colors. they just have folded tabs holding them down.
semp
-
To get a better adhesion I would recommend scratching up your case before paint and sand between each coat with a wet-dry sandpaper such as 2000 grit just to get it smother. Do the same with the clear coat also.
Also it is easier to remove the grills and paint under them. Masonz here is a good website to drool over when you are modding your case.. it is where I got some of my ideas.

the tabs seem too flimsy to be bending. I would keep them black and paint my case a blue, I already have the paint, sand paper and tape for taping off the trim areas and (probably) grills so they don't get paint kn them. Starting it this evening ir tomorrow.
Ill post pics for you ladies

if you are unsure about the tabs try a couple first on oposite sides. that's what I did and only broke 1 tab on the 3 grills i removed. fear is for the weak, the strong will use it as an opportunity to show your wife you need to buy another case since the one you have is defective :D.

im 17...better not be married :rofl . I don't have the money for another case either. I got some painters tape with a blue the closest I could get to a candy. If it doesn't cut it it'll do for now. Ill be working on it this evening. At lest starting to disassemble it so tomorrow I can start spraying it if I have nothing to do. Ill post pics as I go.
-
take 2 or 3 days to dry. you dont want to turn on the system with fumes still coming out of the paint. remember it gets above 50 or 60 degrees inside the case.

Good point... got a druid for a reason haha

LOL I took your advice and I painted my grills a different color and they look better. As soon as I can i will post pics and show it off now.
Also I just ordered these to go inside the case to brighten it up. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811994001 , I am just waiting for the delivery and install and I will post the new pictures.

LLawn, when you painted your top did you take the panel off, and same with your front. Getting trying to get my panels off and ready for spray for tomorrow, but im havin an issue getting the top and front panels off. I know how to get the front panel off, but getting the clips up at the top are a PITA.
-
On the top you have to remove the screws forst then the whole grill with the trim piece comes off. then you can get to the tabs to remove the screen.
hope that helps you out.
-
Iight. Ill give that a try. :salute
-
HHow did you go abiut pinting around your fan control diagram lawn? I have eerything all prepped for the most part eexcept for the fan control digram
-
I only taped off the black and painted over thier stencils.
-
PPretty muh what i did. Put on the first coat this morning, gonna snd it and shoot it again when i get home....ig i have enough for a second coat. Pictures to follow soon!

how did you hold the plexi glass in? also, those two fans on the side blowin air onto the HDDs, the one fan out front does good enough to keep your HDD's cool?
-
I used a heavy duty clear epoxy on it and the single fan from the front keeps the HDs cool and running great. OK so you know here is my new fan configuration....
1 Fan Front panel blowing in to HD's
2 Fans blowing air out on top for the radiator..
1 Fan blowing air out the back
1 200 MM fan blowing across the video cards to help keep them cool.
1 Fan at end of video cards helping draw air through them to keep them cool.
Core temps are around 37* Celsius
HD Temps 35* Celsius
Vid Card temps 40* Celsius idle 50-54* Celsius under full load
I don't think that is bad ... but I will soon be getting a couple of these and making it better... but I have to wait for price to drop alot
