I appreciate the new gun and tank commander controls but dislike the transmission control of Vehicles.
I spawn out and the Tank is in gear moving forward. Steer 3 degrees off center and you'll never get out of 1st gear. Hit stop (even set button on stick for stop) and you will stop but starts to move forward. Have to shut down engine for a full stop.
These issues are getting me killed time after time. :bhead
Good news though I'm getting better in a fighter as I don't like tanking like I once did. :airplane:

your not calibrated
calibrate in game and also increase deadband on rudder in stick set 2 or whichever you use for gvs and change what keys or axis you change to move forward
-
I calibrate often (after every update, seems like every day) but will check out deadband and see if that fixes it.
But what about the shifting out of 1st if steering not perfectly centered? Hopefully can fix that too. Thanks for the help in advance.

shifting out of first: stuck button or if you have accel/full throttle mapped to an axis unmap it and try using just shift w full/ w accel defaults
steering not perfectly centered...
twisty stick or rudder pedal deadband set it higher
open the advanced tab
look into it see whats going on.
the problems you describe are not flaws in the code but hardware trouble it seems.

wow.....had no idea you could have different deadbands, scaling, etc for different modes....will investigate further

And you know nothing about a tank turning and what happens.

everyone complains about me and my microscope and reporting what I find good or bad but once in a while it proves to be useful stuff :D

AFAIK you can have different scaling for different modes but not different deadbands or dampening.
I have different scaling for gv mode, fighter mode and bomber gunner mode. :D
It just looks to me that the deadbands and dampening stay the same.

I definitely make sure on 2 things :
#1, that the game autoswitches to Mode 2 when I spawn a GV
#2, that I have a manual way to switch modes when needed.
I have my mode 2 set specifically to NOT use the joystick or throttle for anything, as mine tends to drift some. Not a big deal when in aircraft, but a huge pain to have a super small drift on the turret. So I just use mouse/kbd.
And yes, different modes you can set just about everything separately, including scaling and dead bands.
An awesome feature that AH has that I think is a huge step above just about anything out there for the PC. The control customization is tops bar none.

I tried to explain this in empirical, scientific terms in another thread...

VonMessa you know when you use big words the cavemen just get lost. The iron clad law of tanks are turn tank tank slows down tank slows down gearing goes down and more power is needed to keep speed up.

Not to mention that ~30 tons of vehicle doesn't stop on a dime...

only in the realm of AH...

i dunno, i've stopped 45 tons on a dime...ok so the dime didn't end up where it started but still, the tread was on it. :lol
at just 30 mph there was a distinct possibility of dipping the barrel into the ground if you stopped too fast and you could really tear up the suspension in the rear when it came back down.

Assign one easily reached button for Full Stop.

After driving more GV's this weekend than I think I ever have, I would say I like the new GV controls. Took a second to get used to, but I like not having to use the joystick to drive.
And I love the Panther tank. Good addition

My only gripe about the controls is the transmission. Nothing worse than being stuck in first under fire, or on a hill whose slope keeps the GV shifting between the top two gears, bogging down inbetween. A nice update would be a semi automatic transmission where the user can select the gear, like the old model (except neutral of course).

Dirtdart your wish is not possible no tranny will do what you want, a tank will always slow down going uphill and slow down in a turn requiring a downshift and more throttle to keep the torque up.
