You just found out who Steve Jobs is a few days ago?
Really not surprising he's leaving. He took a long break a couple months ago. It's very likely he's got some serious health issues that have been kept private, it will be interesting to see if they come out now that he has stepped down.

Time to shift investments back to HP. I read somewhere, Apple had to provide safety nets around their manufacturing plants in China in order to reduce their suicide rates. LOL, people jumping out of the building expecting to die in order to find a better future.
WOW! Good riddance Steve! China takes the hit.
Who's Next? maybe India.
Time to bring the manufacturing jobs home........... Screw the Global order.
I might be in trouble with this post..........wouldn't be the first time!

Time to shift investments back to HP.
Don't do that yet. Find something stable. HP is about to go through a major change as well.
Thank me later.

yeah given that HP are going to sell off their entire hardware business I'd wait and see what happens. I realise theres no margin on that stuff, but its the only thing HP are known for doing. dont know what their business plan is but if they're getting out of hardware it must be business software/cloudy stuff/consultancy. all sounds a bit dotcomy to me :headscratch:
and :salute Steve, for making my life 5% less stressful and my time 5% more productive over the last 20yrs.
-
I view this as a potential buying opportunity for Apple stock. I wouldn't touch HP with a ten foot pole at this point, unless you can afford to buy it and sit on it for a couple years.

Did you pay attention to the buisness section in the paper before the age of 18? :D

You should read that article again. It isn't an Apple owned or run manufacturing plant, it's owned and operated by the Foxconn Technology Group and the suicides have nothing to do with Apple and everything with being forced to work as forced slave labor.
ack-ack

Was just reading this.....
Apple, one of the direct buyers of Foxconn products, released a press statement: “We are saddened by the tragic loss of this young employee, and we are awaiting results of the investigations into his death. We require that our suppliers treat all workers with dignity and respect (quoted in CNET News, 21 July 2009).” Commentators suggested that Apple’s secretive culture and business approach—creating and suspending great surprise in the market and thereby adding sale value to its products—have sent extreme pressure all the way down its Chinese suppliers.
Snippet was taken from here.... http://goodelectronics.org/news-en/dying-young-the-foxconn-suicides-and-china2019s-booming-economy (http://goodelectronics.org/news-en/dying-young-the-foxconn-suicides-and-china2019s-booming-economy)

He got pancreatic cancer seven years ago. Most people live about two years after diagnosis. He has had a liver transplant and, I seem to recall, part of a lung removed. He took a leave of absence a few months ago for health reasons, and has now resigned before coming back.
To be honest, I expect we'll be reading his obituary soon.

I'm a fan and a concerned user, having had about 6 of their desktops (3 right now) over the years. I'm very worried that
Apple - Jobs = Centris
Been there, done that. It wasn't bad, if you don't mind living in a weird twilight zone between a PC and a Mac. BTW, I will be loading AH to the Windows 7 side of my latest Mac shortly so that my exchange student and I can fight each other in the DA. I will give a report. For now, I'll say that my AH platform has been, for the last year or so, a Mac Mini running Windows XP and that that platform and system run AH very well. I'll get the occasional "Windows has encountered a problem" but it's rare. We'll see how Lion running Windows 7 fares. I'm quite suspicious of Windows 7. It looks like typically junky Windows kerrap but maybe I'm just jaded from having lived with a number of Windows desktops and laptops (mostly for work - because you sure don't use 'em for pleasure), all of which compare quite unfavorably to my beloved Macs.

HP just announced they're quitting their PC and tablet production totally :)
Oh, and HP is using the same subcontractors with Apple. It's just the haters that narrow the scope of view.

wow... guess my old high school better stock up on parts and laptop then... every classroom (~55 of them) have 30 HP laptops in each room...

someone will buy the hardware business, although the prices will go up for sure, and medium/long term the quality will go down :(
(I have ~25 HP machines )

Any company doing business with Foxconn supports slavery and inhumane work conditions. Apple just happens to buy the highest percentage of product off the end of the Foxconn assembly lines.
-
Of course, this could always happen too.

You might as well just refuse to buy anything made in the PRC, given the relative severity of the incidents involving FoxConn.
