Title: Airframe stress sounds
Post by: bbosen on August 27, 2011, 09:19:43 AM
I wish Aces High would simulate airframe stress sounds like Airwarrior did. When pushing my Airwarrior P38 hard and pulling 5 or 6 Gs, I would hear squeaks and pops resulting from the deformation of my airframe. I also remember some old sim in which I would sometimes hear grunts and groans and heavy breathing from the pilot during the same kind of stresses that now result in blackout or redout. It would be cool if these were OPTIONS that could be configured by each pilot with regard to their volume, probability/frequency, (and gender LOL).

We do have stress sounds. Get a plane to about 500mph in a dive and you can hear metal groaning, try pulling it up and you'll hear it even more.

Cool! Is that with the standard sound pack? I'll have to listen harder...

...Or maybe I am missing it because I have "wind noise" set as loud as possible, and maybe it's overwhelming the stress sounds.

Imagine a cliche squeaky old pirate ship; that's what the default sounds like to me.

The speeds and G loads that the groaning starts is different for each airplane.  Bombers have lower tolerances.  Fast bombers such as the Boston III and Ki-67 reach their structural limits rapidly when diving.

Just bank an A6M2 and turn very hard and you'll hear them.
