Title: Option to NOT autolevel the plane when you jump to gunner position

How about an option not to auto level a plane when you jump to a gunner position.  Sure i've lost most of my gunners but when i get the con in a position to shoot him with my one remaining gunner you level the plane and now he's out of position and not in the window of my gunner anymore.

if i crash it's my problem.

Perhaps have the option of choosing what you want you autopilot to do while you shooting? Not just fly straight & level, but hold speed or nose pointed at something. I'd like to be able to keep climbing while shooting at someone.

that should also be available.  if i'm in a turn and i'm trimmed up to keep it there is no reason to go to level flight just because i go to a gunner slot.

Yeah but don't you think you'll overshoot the turn while in the gunner's seat?

Also I don't think such autopilot existed at the time that could keep your plane in the turn. And if you just leave it without the autopilot aerodynamically it will level out.

it's not about being in "autopilot" it's about being in "trim".  yes i know that historically all the planes we fly did not have 3 axis trim.  however with 3 axis trim planes that are "stable" versus "unstable" that are in trim will stay where they are at until a new control input is put in. 

as an example, if the plane is in trim and you put it in a turn it will stay in the turn and not tighten or return to level until you move the controls. if it is not in trim or if something else acts upon it it will do something but not, usually, violently without control input.

Right, but you don't actually trim your plan to turn. You trim it to fly straight & level and you do your turns by hand. If you trim it to turn you'll be done turning before you finished trimming it right.

better option would be to either be the gunner or pilot but not both.

This would be a good addition, imo.  There has been more than once I've been in a normal turn in a Boston III and was able to brings the rear guns to bear on a target ... ... for only for a quick burst because the plane "corrected" itself.  Perhaps a toggle just like we can do with combat trim, auto pilot, etc?

And your rudder to turn.

Theoretically, you could control up and down with throttle also.

yup, rudder turns from the guns are the best evasive you can do with formations. and about the only option you have for buffs with no low coverage defending against zoom attacks (very useful against 163s ;)).

I use Shift-X to build speed in a shallow descent; speeds up egress, reduces closure rate for attacking fighters and increases the time needed for them to set up the next attack.

also if you set .speed xxx to something reasonable (280 for bostons iirc) you can use X and Alt-X from a gun position to alternate between level and nose up for the buffs with no low 6 coverage (default autoclimb speed is too severe to be useful.) this really is a last resort though.


theres plenty of tools already ingame to help with this, just got to pracice with em :aok
