Anyone else getting sick of typing .speed or .salvo all the time? I would like to be able to program some keys to bring up the buffer with certain .commands typed out already. I could save time just entering the value desired. Am I crazy, I am crazy right?

i have some macros programmed through my X52 software. Your stick may have something similar.
-
Then maybe I'm just lazy lol
-
I have macros thru my keyboard. and if you think about it, anything mapped to a stick is actually a macro.

I should have explained more clearly. I want "multi keyed text" programmability to a single keyboard function. Do we already have that or is stick-mapping the only way? You see I have a hotas setup, and what my old piano teacher calls "stupid fingers".

this keyboard has 18 program able keystrokes.

No...
It would only be used by squeakers to spam what they think are catch phrases over 200 or over ch.2 or whatever.
Just imagine it now:
1 key press "MISSION IN 5 MINUTES!"
MISSION IN 4.75 MINUTES
MISSION IN 4.5 MINUTES
MISSION IN 4.25 MINUTES
MISSION IN 4 MINUTES
etc....
I think it would be a general nuisance feature.

Ouch I hadn't thought of that! Just for dot commands then. Very good point sir.

What HOTAS you using killb8? An X-52 would do what you're talking about, I'm told the CH products software has similar capability.
Wiley.

You can provided you have either a programmable controller or keyboard. Hell, some of the better mice have the ability to program macros the way you want. For example, with Control Manager, I can program a button on my joystick to output the entire Gettysburg Address if I want to. I have the same ability with my Logitech G15 keyboard and my Storm Sentinel mouse.

Not a good point at all since this game has started there has always been the ability to program multi-text macros and we have yet to see any major abuses of these macros. The community itself does a fine job of policing it, which is why the highly popular kill message macros from AW never made it over to AH. As long as you have the hardware to do it, making macros like you wish is very easy to do.

I remember setting up different macros for when I killed someone.......one was " another one bites the dust" I had a few different ones but they sometimes didn't work quite right so only half of the macro would show up or it would type it out twice :rofl
but I stopped cuz it really bugged a lot of people....I don't mind if people hate me because they cant kill me, or my winning personality :rofl
but to aggravate a bunch of people with the macros didn't feel right to me so I stopped....the macro's you are talking about are totally different....should be easy to set up....what stick you using?

Ahhh, the AW macro, what drew me to this thread.... bah I say, anyway... yes you can use the programming software for sure, good tips.

There's a different between building the feature directly into the game, implicitly encouraging it, and having a buggy but still annoying version to map in certain specialized joystick mapping softwares. I'm thinking the technical know-how is limiting the spam more than the community. Hell pigs filled pages of chat buffer without any macros already. Imagine every squad did that all the time.

Just because macro's can be abused doesn't mean they are a bad idea. In addition to keyboards with programmable keys you can also find programmable keypads to use along with your current keyboard.
-
But again, the people that would abuse macros are the same ones dissuaded by actually having to go through some other set up process.
If you include it directly into the game as a "press this key, spam this text" option, you will 100% encourage their abuse.
While they exist, the arbitrary difficulty in using them curtails the abuse.
You see what I mean? It's a catch-22. By adding them you ensure their over-use. Even though you can do it now, since it's not "part of the game" it won't be heavily abused.
-
Do you have an actual number or percentage of players that would abuse macros that justifies not offering it as a benefit for the rest of the players? :)

Remember, he uses Krusty Mathematics, so there will be a 99.9.% margin of error.
