Get ready boys and girls, Irene brought her sister. Katia is currently forming up in the Atlantic as a Cat 1 as of August 30/31. All hope and pray that this is Irene's good twin sister. :cry

I noticed this strange video sponsored by FEMA on TV almost every evening over past weeks;

I say she will hit the southern end of Flordia, then head north.

I've gotta agree. That was a really weird commercial.
Katie looks to e no threat to any land areas except for Bermuda. But this of course could always change so we'll have to watch and see what she does. I'm still hanging my hopes on the GOM storm that's supposed to form and move across Texas. It would bring some much needed rain.

There is nothing weird about being prepared for an emergency.

No not at all. It was just presented in a weird way.

I'm glad I moved from SC.

Just saw how bad it was there in the news. I hope you get some soon.

Don't know where Flordia is, but that sounds like a good assessment.

This.
I spent many summers from 1965 to 1975 in Florida. Boy have things changed...

Looks like she is heading for the waters inbetween Florida and Cuba which is what we call the "power zone" for some reason storms go through that strait and come out as Cat 4's and 5's. Praying she doesnt head toward NW Florida :pray

We need scarier names for these hurricanes. I say we rename this one to Kratos. The next one can be Leonidas.

This. People arent going to evacuate for "Hurricane Irene" but I bet people would get the hell out of dodge for "Hurricane Destructor 3000"
-
Maybe, name the hurricanes based on the strength of it. {Peaches or Wendy} for a light storm. Or 'Shoulda left when you had the chance' {Tanya}.
Don't know why I picked Tanya for the strong storm.
Coogan

Hurricane Helga.

Most computer models have Katia heading into the north Atlantic, with the most reliable predicting that it stays away from the US mainland....

ya know?
i got water....plenty for myself for at least 2 weeks. when mom comes back up, i'll grab more, along with more canned food. i'm gonna fill all of my propane bottles, and store em in my garage.
what i don't know(and feel i should), is if i were to try n store gasoline, how exactly do i store it long term safely? i don't think having plastic 5 gallon gas cans around is a good idea. i've got access to 55 gallon drums, but i'm not thinking that'd be too safe either........
-
Here's one idea on the storage of gasoline.

I absolutely HATE those FEMA commercials. Don't get me wrong being prepared is always a good idea *BUT* when they are complaining about balancing the budget and all that I would think that spending money on those adverts could be put to better use. But I have to stop right there. I can feel Skuzzy lurking over my shoulder...
Going back to the subject of the commercials though.. have you seen the one where the wife is massaging the petals of her flowers and being a total :furious to her husband about being prepared for this and being prepared for that and every time he says "Yes dear" the tornado gets smaller and smaller! I can't STAND that commercial I just want to reach through the screen and strangle her!
