So, tell me again why some of the hogs have a few notches already set on takeoff?
-
I believe that's for auto takeoff on the CV.
-
Auto takeoff :lol You noob Fudmukkr! :old:

Set up a heavy F4U1C in the hanger, then take off with no flaps. Then you tell us why.

This brings up an interesting question. Didn't the n1k-2j Shiden Kai (George) have a revolutionary auto flap design that has to date never been modeled in any flight sim that features it?

In a meeting at the HT headquarters the conversation went something like this:
HT: Hey guys, wana make Fud cry?
Scuzzy: Cool idea :aok
SyperFly: :x
Sadz: :rock
Scuzzy: OK, but how to do it . . . . Hmmmmm :headscratch:
HT: Lets set flaps on the F4U automatically. That should do it :devil
Superfly: Ohhhhhhhh :salute
Scuzzy: No wonder you are the boss :old:
Sadz: :furious Why can;t I think of cool things like that.
Well, it is not exactly how it went but I am sure it is close to it :lol

Yes. We just had this discussion recently:

Oh cool a new one I haven't seen. This is the one I come across the most when I looked up the subject.

There are allot of older ones to going all the way back to 2000 I think.
I would agree with Krusty its not something I really want I would prefer to control the flaps myself. But I don't have to take my hands of my controls and I'm not fighting 30+ pounds of feedback in the controls.

Stacked Hog off CV, no flaps....no problem (unless it's turning). You just have to have some finesse.
To the OP's question.... dunno....

I would like to see the f4u Check list for Carrier take offs. What was the flap settings?
-
Says half flaps in the film, about 20 degrees I think (7:15).

It is a question not a whine...I was just curious that's all...It doesn't bother me one way or the other.

I wasn't referring to auto flaps in that way. On auto take off in the hog, the flaps are set for takeoff. Just curious why AH set the plane that way?
-
B-29 as well, for the same reason.
IIRC, all Heavies used to take off with flaps and someone would forget to raise them and wonder why they were flying so slowly.
wrongway

I always put mine down 2 notches on carrier takeoff to be safe
-
WOW, just wow.
Flaps are preset that way so that it's possible to use auto-takeoff from a carrier withought putting it in the drink with a full load.
DUH
Seriously really
-
Fud wouldn't know. He doesn't do carriers.

Unless they put one at the lake lol. I have a feeling it's rudder would get stuck in the mud though lol
-
hey where is my ground crew to prep my prop????????????

I find the auto flaps thingy on the f4u's just irritating.. I think it would be alot better to just drop the flaps 2 notches when needed, because if you don't take off from a carrier much you don't really need them for a normal takeoff.
Instead of dropping the 2 notches the few times they are needed, we now have to raise them each and every time we take off from a field and don't really need flaps instead. But I am starting to get used to raising flaps now, it was most annoying in the start when that patch came out..
And I do fly f4u's alot, so getting used to things is not really the problem. It's more about getting tired of little issues in the long run now..
To top the icing they could add the f4u's folded wings also while they're at it. That's another carrier thing..
But I guess I would just hate it when sitting on a field runway surrounded by vulcher's, waiting for my wings to unfold before takeoff.. :furious :noid
-
I use no flaps as I am rolling off the cv to get better speed, when I clear the deck I deploy some to help with the extra ord weight.
