Title: Terrain checking filter for custom terrains in the Custom Arena
Post by: Easyscor on September 02, 2011, 08:28:16 PM
Please make sure, when user created terrains are allowed, that the new Custom arena terrains must pass through the same test filters as the regular arena terrains.

The filter could report problems as Errors, Warnings, or Info, depending on the level of non-compliance. And if the filter would run as a plug-in, it could be updated without touching the TE or the server side.

In the past, a H2H terrain would run even if it didn’t meet all the requirements of the regular arena. This caused lots of problem and confusion when terrain creators moved to make terrains for the regular arenas, or when testing things. You couldn’t depend on something working just because it worked in a H2H terrain or offline.

Thanks

I'd hate to see every terrain have to meet strict standards that include a bunch of stuff that aren't necessary except for MA terrains for example.

That would make it no easier to create new terrains and negate the benefits of such a system.

Perhaps a happy medium could be found?

This may sound harsh, but...

Anyone who makes a terrain for a custom arena should be allowed to (within reason) put as much or as little into it as they like. If they decide later to start making terrains for the Mains, then they can put in the effort to learn what can and cannot be done. To force MA standards on custom arena terrains is a bad idea. Some people don't care about all the details and only want "a cool place to play". Those who care, will take the time to learn.
