so you're saying that if you look under "devices and printers", windows doesn't show your saitek joystick? then the basic drivers aren't installed. that joystick should show up under devices and printers as well as under device manager.

so, your joystick calibrates itself to the system just by moving it. interesting. strange that the saitek i owned didn't do the same thing in win7, had to calibrate it.

windows has a built in calibration utility for most joysticks, it's labeled "game controller settings".

Is this what you are looking for?

In Windows7 on my PC to clear the calibration registry (VID_06A3&PID_075C) I unplug X52, delete the folder in regedit.exe, plug back in and move all axis through their full range.

_0460 is an ST290 and _0763 are the Saitek rudders on my system.

There are other threads here in the forum that cover this but I don't have them bookmarked.

that explains the magical properties of the x52 and here i thought semp was giving me poop. sorry semp.

in windows xp you had to look in control panel under game controllers and most joystick drivers allowed windows to run a calibration. you could also go the long way through device manager but that was a pita.

windows 7 is a bit easier but, i'm guessing it's depending on the native drivers used for the stick. wonder what something like the tm warthog does. :headscratch:
