Title: Damage and eb6 plane weights in the 109 k4
Post by: Ardy123 on September 07, 2011, 04:28:37 PM
I notices something strange yesterday while playing the game. In two different flights, call them flight A and flight B.

Flight A
1) My fuel line was hit and my engine died. I dumped all my ammo to lighten my k4 and the weight was around 6890

Flight B
2) My radiator was hit and my engine died, I still had fuel left (more than a quarter of a tank), and I dumped all my ammo to lighten for the glide, and my weight was at 6801.

How is that possible?

Does the 109 k4 have more radiator fluid than a quarter tank of gas?
Does AH model weight loss as a result of damage?

I don't know if this pertains to your scenario but I flew my landing gear off in the 4hog to see if the weight changed and it did not. Not sure about the radiator gas question though <S>

Dunno, but dumping your ammo after the engine dies is probably a bad idea due to lose of velocity caused by the recoil.

Does anyone have the POH for the 109K? That way we'll be able to find out the weight of the radiator fluid.
I did not think that loss of weight due to damage is modeled in AH, but your test shows that it does get lighter.

Agreed, especially with that 30mm. But I think Bunnies was doing it for testing purposes rather than increasing the glide distance, right?

I didn't have any 30 mm left anyway, but either way, I wanted the same 'configuration' and could not achieve that having shot some of my bb guns, so I unloaded all of them. Also I was curious to what the 'dry' weight was. I should have filmed it but I failed to. I film every flight but out of habit, I hit cancel.

You can test it offline. Set your fuel burn multiplier to 10 (not sure if you can go higher, but do it if you can), burn off your fuel and ammo and check E6B.

I film every flight but out of habit, I hit cancel.

I have the same problem.

my bb guns

You do realize that those are 13mms, that's like 50cals. 7.7mms = BBs  :D

Gotten a good amount of kills with just those too, Cowl mounted .50's are really good cause no convergence problems.

good for you, I'm not getting any kills with no fuel or engine. So back to the topic, why were the weights the way they were?

 Bunnies,

Thats about an 89 pound difference, fuel weighs 6 pounds per gallon so that would be about 15 gallons in fuel weight. So I'd assume that would be the same or close to the volume of glycol,I dont have the specific amount used in the 109 handy but seeing as it has 2 rads and plumbing it would be safe to say that the difference is do to loss of glycol, everything else being equal.

I'm not totally sure if HTC models the loss of fluids other than fuel but from these weight difference it seems likely and kind of a cool thing to boot!

6.073 pounds per US Gallon or 0.721 kg/l.
7.29 pounds per Imperial Gallon.

1 US Gallon = 3.9 litres
1 Imperial Gallon = 4.55 litres

100l of fuel would weigh ~72lb.

Fuel Capacity :   400 liters
Machinegun Armament :   2x 13mm MG131 (Nose - 220 rounds each)
Cannon Armament :   1x 30mm Mk108 (Propeller Hub - 60 rounds)

Empty Weight :   2673 kilograms
Operational Weight :   3148 kilograms
Maximum Weight :   3375 kilograms

We do not have any weight loss due to damages.

Things that you may have missed.

1. Were you manually selecting tanks?

2. Was a gun damaged?

There is only one fuel tank on the K-4.

hmmm, no gun damage either...

next time it happens I'll try to not hit cancel on film save pop-up.

EDIT:
Is there some way off line I can 'reproduce' getting the fule take hit or the radiator hit (any special 'dot' codes like .damage radiator or something)?

If you want we can go to the DA and reproduce the damage there. One will fly straight and the other will shoot only at the right target.

ok, I'm at work now, but tonight we could try that.

Ok, machfly and I tested it. Mach thanks btw.

Anyway, as HTC stated, they didn't model the rad fluid weight.  I don't know why I saw different weights earlier I must have done something different.

6686 :Radiator + no drop tank mount
6796 :Radiator + drop tank mount
6796 :Radiator damaged + drop tank mount

All these tests were done with no fuel and no ammo. We did discover some strange damage issues. I believe machfly will post the video, but basically when we were trying to hit the radiator and/or the fuel, we would 'hit the pilot' even if the impact was clearly behind the pilot's seat.

BTW When you guys from HTC have a minute could you close the custom arena called "K4 test", I could not figure out how to do that. Thanks

HE did not just go there in a luftvhiner thread, or did he?   :uhoh :bolt:

Same for most plane models I think (particularly older ones), anything within the general vicinity of the cockpit has a chance to wound or kill the pilot.  Simillar would be an instance I can recall while playing last night, I lobbed a 30mm HE shell into an enemy spit's tail assembly and was certain it'd be the last shot the spit would need to be taken down - but nope, it only completely removed the left horzontal stabilizer on the tail.  The random number generators weren't rolling in my favor last night.  I dislike the modeling in my Dora's aft fuselage section often at times as well for a very similar reason, behind the cockpit there's a "line" somewhere where all hits to the aft of it have a chance of completely severing the tail assembly, and then all hits infront of this imaginary line have a good to decent chance of wounding or killing the pilot (edit: also the aft fuel cell is tucked up and under the pilot back there as well, it's a real hotspot for the random numbers that get generated to do their work in) - in a nutshell, basicly if you're skilled/lucky enough to get some shots into the broadside of a dora's aft fuselage, then *ka-ching* more often than not.

They automaticly close and are removed from the private server list after X amount of time has expired without the arena seeing any activity/use.
