hey all.....working on the 51B "Big Mac junior"
first two shots without rivets....
couple questions
I know that the 51D wings were painted silver so the rivets and panel lines could not be seen (except the ammo panels)....was the same thing done to the 51B?
can not find any reference......
on the default skin it shows Two fuel inlets...one on each side of fuselage .....besides the fact they are in the wrong spot...were there one on each side? I am guessing its only on left side but I have been wrong before.....
any and all comments/critique are welcome.......and I thank ya in advance :salute
I see the panel line highlights are way to bold....and plan on changing that :D

Dang, that bare metal finish kicks some serious bunghole! Keep up with the good work. I am going to take a shot in the dark and guess that the wings on most 51Bs were painted silver. I could be wrong though. It might also depend on the fighter group and unit markings as well, as they vary from one group to another. I'll provide some pictures to help assist you in how you want your skin to look.

- Here is a close up of Big Mac Junior. Based on this photo, I would guess that the wing was painted silver, in addition to the invasion stripes with the OD painted over top. Gives you some nice detail ideas to add around the cockpit of your skin as well.

- This looks to have 4th FG markings. Not too sure though.

- This does not look like a combat operational aircraft.

Bottom one is a stateside training bird. The red nose bird is a 4th Mustang.
INK the wing would have been done the same as the 51D for smoothing the airflow

Hey ink, I think the "Big Mac" noseart was bigger. If you look in that photo I provided, you can see that the noseart comes close to the front of the canopy. I don't have any other photos to reference from, but you might want to take a closer look.

I have those....
good eye...its like 3 pixels too small...maybe not even that much, but I can see the "B" is closer to the exhaust, and the "C" goes into the panel where as mine is just touching it.....
good call :salute

Here is a few more photos. These photos are subject to artist's depictions so I wouldn't use them as credible source of evidence. However, I do think the artist does a fairly good job of capturing the small details that bring this paint scheme to life.

I have an idea. Lower the position of the shark mouth a little bit. Take a look at the top of the shark mouth on your skin and compare them to the historical photos. You will notice that the mouth is a little higher up on your skin. Once you finish that, thicken the black trim around the corners of your shark mouth. After that, increase the size of the nose art so that it fits as it is shown in the photos. It probably won't make your skin 100% accurate, but that is a given because I don't think the 3D model in AH is 100% exact as opposed to real life. There are a lot of other variables as well, like putting the panel lines in the exact spot and using them as a reference for your unit markings. I guess you are going to have to cheat just a slight bit to achieve the effect you want.

What imaging program are you using?

Ink
What imaging program are you using?
"GIMP" with an addon called "GIMP paint studio"
GIMP comes with "tools" IE pen...pencil...airbrush...pai nt brush, with GPS installed it gives you another brush called a "mixing brush" that actually uses the paint already laid down, like a real paint brush..plus it adds a crap load of "brushes" and preset settings.
all free of course....great program :aok

Since that is an old skin, it would be nice if HTC would allow for ink to try his hand at it and replace Raptor's version with ink's.
