Title: Twisty Joystick recommand?
Post by: batdog on September 08, 2011, 07:14:11 PM: Hello, havent played in forever and have no desire to mess w/my x45 again. I use to use a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick, but I cant rem if I had issues or not... I think not. I just need simple, reliable I guess.

Feedback please.

Others have had reliability problems with the stick, and it has a reputation for wearing out within a year or so. But I've consistently had 2 or 3 years of good service from each one I've used (I've been flying a long time, with multiple machines). Here's a link to some pictures and clips of my setup:

Post by: BaldEagl on September 12, 2011, 11:39:28 PM: I use a Saitek AV8R but I always keep either a spare one of those or a spare ST-290 on hand because they are prone to early failure.

I used to get them at Best Buy and pay the extra $10 for the extended warranty but Best Buy dropped them. Thankfully MadCatz will honor the warrany though so if it breaks soon enough they'll repair or replace it while you use the back-up. I figure that way I get a couple of years out of one and my back-up gets very little use before I have to replace the AV8R again and it's a nice stick when it's working.

It's not perfect, but it gives a lot of bang for the buck. Besides the twisty there's also a rudder controller in the throttle. What I like most in a Hotas, is having a bunch of buttons for both hands.

It might not be the most accurate but the feel more than makes up for it.

Since humans are not calibrated in pounds per square inch of pressure, I would definately audition any proposed stick purchase for feel if at all possible.
