Anyone know how to set up the environment settings in offline and custom arenas so you can hit F5 in the hanger and get the bird's eye view of the field. When I do it I get the ground level view.

Check the arena settings for viewmode flags. Look for Tower God Mode (or something similar).
I'm at work, so this is by memory. :)
EDIT:
And check the AH Wiki for setting up CM Eye on your joystick. I've got it set in Mode 4. It's great for exploring the terrain, going inside buildings on the bases and watching a dogfight in your custom arena. :aok

tower god mode does not work for me. Does not work even if trying from tower. Just get the ground level view. thanks.

I think that's the behavior if you have CM-like privs in an arena with God Mode enabled - which you do offline and in your own custom arena.

Try setting up your controls for CM Eye view. I don't think they're enabled by default.

well F3/F8 works some what, but not as good as F5/F8.

If you just want the basic F5/F8 hovering above the tower panning view thingy, does it work if you make sure Tower God View is disabled? To my knowledge, if that flag is enabled, when you hit F5 you will be on the ground in the middle of the base.

If it works correctly in other arenas, it must be a behavior implemented when they introduced custom arenas and gave players CM privs in their own arena - must have spilled into offline too. I guess your only option is to view the links in my earlier post and set up your controls for CM Eye movement in a seldom-used mode (I use mode 4, and switch to that mode with the * key).
So when I want to cruise around in God Mode, I hit F5 to enter God Mode, then * to activate mode 4 to control God Mode, and off I go.

Yes this will happen until you map the move forward/move backward in CMeye,then you can use your JS to fly around using the 2 buttons to move.Your throttle will control the speed you "fly" around at but you wont have the ability to use the hat switch to "look" around,you must manuver around using JS and move forward/backwards. I think there's a couple other comands you can map,get old and I forget,but all I've ever used are the move forward/backwards.

Map View...when used it points you straight down and is useful if you're 100,000 miles up and can't see the planet.
Yaw left/right is useful when mapped to your rudder pedals (or axis on twisty stick)
