Title: Bomber Gunner Ammo
Post by: Vinkman on September 09, 2011, 08:58:23 AM
I don't buff much so if I have this wrong please correct me.

I jumped in a tail gun of my B-24 and started shooting at a spit that was after me. After a while the gun ran out of ammo. So I switched planes to one of the drones and found I had ammo again.  So my question is if all the guns fire when I pull the trigger, why don't they all run out at the same time?

Or am I crazy?

Did you take any hits? Are you sure you ran out of ammo and didn't have the gunner killed?

I recall checking the counter and it said Zero. I remember watching it thinking "I'm going to run out of ammo".  But I am easily confused in came.  :D so perhaps. Are you saying that they should all run out at the same time? (same position, realizing some positions have more ammo than others)

do you have the trigger on your stick set to use the "n" key mode of firing bomber guns?

you know, if you want the drones to fire at the same time and at the same point you do, you hit the "n" key unless you have it mapped to your stick trigger...since you don't bomtard much, i suspect the drones weren't firing when you were.

AH! I did this once before but may have reset and remapped sisnce. I will check that. Also thoguht  Ihit that spit a lot for him to have livved. Perhaps beause I was only firing 2x.50cal instaead of 12.

Thanks I'll check that.  :salute

Also, your drone's guns will not fire through your other planes nor themselves so if the guns are blocked they will not shoot.

How do you map the "N" key to the primary trigger on a joystick? Last time I tried to fix it, my fighters wouldn't shoot.  :headscratch:

I believe it is "Fire All" but I would have to actually look.

Also, I think, if you don't have it mapped that way now you would only be firing one set of guns on your fighter.

F = Fire Primary only

i dont mean to hijack, but when i first played, trigger fired primary and my thumb button did secondary on fighters. trigger did fire all on bombers. a couple months ago none of my bombers were firing after an update. I tried the fire all on my trigger but then my fighters does fire all as well.

Well, to get to the heart of that issue, you need to use very technical terms.
From the game's standpoint, by default, "Button 1" is "Fire All" and "Button 2" is "Fire Secondary." Generally, Button 1 is the trigger. However, things aren't always logical with joystick manufacturers. Kinda like how I expected the double-detent trigger on my X52 to be button 1 and 2...they're button 1 and 13, if I remember correctly.

In the case of the #1 (cockpit) position on planes: Fire All fires all selected gun banks (and ignores bombs, rockets, and fuel tanks as I remember). Fire Primary will fire only the top armament, which is generally the smaller of the two sets of guns and isn't generally toggled even though there's a key for it. Fire Secondary will fire the secondary bank regardless of whether a gun, bomb, rocket, or fuel tank is selected.

In the case of the #2-#9 (gunner) positions on planes: Fire All fires all turret positions (not the cockpit) that can possibly fire on the current point of aim. Fire Primary will only fire the current gun position you are in. Fire Secondary has no use.

In the case of the #2 (main gun) position on vehicles with a heavy gun: I may be remembering incorrectly, but I believe Fire All and Fire Primary are the same in this case; they fire only the main gun. Fire Secondary will fire the coaxial machine gun, if available.

In the case of the #3-#9 (gunner) positions on vehicles (and #2 on vehicles lacking a heavy gun, like the troop LVT): Fire All will fire all guns that can reach the current aiming point (though I THINK hull guns on tanks are not included in this). Fire Primary will fire only the current gun position. Fire Secondary has no use.

Fire Secondary will fire the secondary bank regardless of whether a gun, bomb, rocket, or fuel tank is selected.

It fires whatever is selected in the second box, be it guns, rockets, or fuel tank.  :D
(NM. That's what you said)

Fire secondary will fire the 20mm cannon in the tail of the B-29 only when in Position 2. I think fire primary will fire the .50s in the tail only in position 2.

Hull guns will fire with the coax mg if it bears on what you are aiming at.

to add onto what wrongway said, the hull gun is enslaved to the coax. wherever your aiming the hull gun will go too, if its in range.
