So I was watching some Military channel footage on aerial bombing and the one thing I always seem to notice is a ploom of fire and smoke that goes up with them. This is not just when bombing cities or factories, but even when bombing in the jungles of Vietnam... My suggestion, and I think the GVer's out here would agree with it, would be to add a 'smoke' element to the bomb crater. This way when carpet bombing, the target area quickly becomes saturated making accurate bombing harder.
Bonuses I see:
It would look pretty cool
Might reduce the amount of carpet bombing of GV battles
Add additional elements of Difficulty to high alt bombing
Downsides I see:

Most people will say no to this due to the smoke causing frame rate to drop.

What he said.

My frame rate won't drop! I say +1

there are different kinds of bombs ... lots of em ...
(although if you go by hollywood, all bombs have a massive fireball ...)
-
It would look pretty cool ...only if you have a super computer. Frame rates would crush most mid-level computers
Might reduce the amount of carpet bombing of GV battles ...doubtful carpet bombers are looking for kills NOT accuracy, all they need do is bomb the smoke cloud
Add additional elements of Difficulty to high alt bombing ...again doubtful. With the site the buffs have it is easy to pick out spots and time drops. Do you know that you can set the ".delay" option on the bomb drop and flying a good flight path in drop on the first target and hit 4 or 5 in a line with ease?
also, a majority of the bombs dropped in Vietnam were incendiary bombs and were made to have lots of flames to burn down the forests

I have made a thread about this....+1

almost all AH bombs are GP - they work using blast and to some degree fragmentation, so you would not expect to see much smoke or any fireball from the detonation.
since it doesnt rain much in AH you might get a dust cloud. you also get secondary effects of smoke/flame from nearby objects, but this is caused by the bomb's blast and fragmentation effects eg. hangars, fuel depots, ammo bunkers etc.

I think this is a good wish and they could also make a check box to say "Ground Smoke Off" for the players with lower end computers so they don't have framerate drops.

In which case everyone would have it off, just like everyone in a GV has their view setting set to "ground view", so why bother to coad it?

Because there are people who will want this option, the same people that love realism...ya know...in a simulation!
-
I like the idea, but give us an option to turn it off. I can't fly over a field with all hangars down because the fire and smoke kills my frame rate.
-
Frame rate drop? oh well to those who have that problem, lol! +1

Well if thats the case we should move the bases about 300 miles apart from eachother.

This is a simulation of equipment, not layouts of airfields. An enhancement of the equipment we use and its' effect on the environment in which we battle is always a huge plus.

HOLES!!!
We already have plenty of those, although they are usually found on channel 200 :D

:rofl And you only have to look to your right or left to see even more... :D
