is a person that goes outside at night, and snaps pictures of a spider.
this one kinda sucks....he was working, and i couldn't get close in on him, although i was trying.

another one building.....

the lighting in some of these sucks, as i set the camera on super close....and that apparently disables the flash. this guy's about the size of a quarter.
it was funny, as mom is up visiting...and came outside to see what i was doing. when she saw the web, she nearly passed out....then she got skittish, and nervous, when she saw me putting the camera only a couple inches from the guy. she's terrified of spiders.
i took these with an olympus sp-600uz. seems like a pretty decent camera, for someone that doesn't know how to do specific settings.

If your that bored you could always recreate this old experiment on spiders. I use this vid to teach my kids all the time about why they should stay away from certain things! :aok

Still pretty cool, CAP1.
Looking at the camera specs:
Focus Range (from lens surface)
Normal mode: Wide: 5.9" – infinity (0.15m – infinity); Tele: 70.9" – infinity (1.8m – infinity)
Macro mode: Wide: 5.9" – infinity (0.15m – infinity); Tele: 70.9" – infinity (1.8m – infinity)
Super Macro mode: 0.39" – 4.72" (0.01m – 0.12m)
Were you in Super Macro mode for the real close up?

some good pics cap, definately a cool spider.
-
Spider = smash!
-
When you see spider like that one building a web, that is an indication that cool/cold weather is less then a month away.

Damn it. All this time I was using a calendar for that. :bhead

yea.....i wanted to see how much detail i could get. it was dark, so i had an led penlight in one hand, shining on him, and was having a little trouble holding the camera steady.

really? i hadn't known that.
he's been in that same area of the yard for about 2 weeks now. i keep going out there, waiting to see how big he gets.

He is a killing machine!

That's a pretty neat feature of that camera!
I have a ton of fun with my macro lens.

i'd try to take some in the daylight, but he's hiding in the bush, and the web's not there. he starts building it around dusk. i wanted to get some pics of him building, but you saw the results. i don't know how to get the camera to snap and focus faster. if we weren't getting so dam much rain here, i'd put my video camera out there on a tripod, and use one of my worklights to light the work....and get a vid of him building it. it truly is amazing how those guys do what they do.
my camera doesn't have changeable lenses.....i scroll through the menu to select the shooting mode. those last couple pics, the lens was only about 2" from him. :D

LOL.. yup. They eat bugs.. Anything that eats bugs is a friend of mine.
A friend posted a pic of a spider that she found in her hair after she had been outside.. my wife is freakin..
Me, of course, inspired by your pics, CAP1, go outside and immediately spot this little fellow feeding on a grasshopper( or some other exo-skeletal life form ) in his hovel.

I expect to have LOTS of fun for the next few weeks..

TY, sir.
Macro is one of the best investments for photography fun.
Try setting your camera up on a tripod for that nighttime shot.. I bet you have one of those garage floor lights you can use too.
I'm interested in seeing how that works out with that camera.
:salute

i do. i have a hi power halogen light in a tripod, and i have one i can clamp to a branch. i was gonna use them, and set my video camera out there, to get him building the web.
i like(and should've thought of) the tripod for the still picture. i'll try that next.

If I had the money to take flying lessons (and the grades) I wouldn't touch it too, seeing as how i don't have either, I have a few shots a day and sit on the couch with the news on waiting for society to crumble in on itself, i'm expecting a bit of a wait

Oh yeah... you can definitely have fun with that! Looks great!

thanks......i think i'm gonna find that i'm gonna be limited on this camera though, as it's "cheap" as cameras go. i wanted one like this though, in case i didn't start taking pictures....it would've been kinda stupid to buy a 900 or 1000 dollar camera setup, and then never use it....
i should be in a kind of weird mood tomorrow night, as i have a dentist appointment....and i hate going there, so i force myself into strange moods...it kinda takes the edge off. i'll see if i can get a couple good ones of him building....i'll try the action setting. :D
