Do you chop the vine down at the end of the year? Mine are nugget too.
EDIT: I froze mine... I see you are drying yours? Whats the correct way oh Jedi Beer Master?

I believe dry/cure before storing/freezing, BUT, since you've already frozen it, I don't know if it's advisable to now cure it or just go with it as is.
Also, he is dehydrating his with a dehydrator, purists/hop-extremists would crucify Messy for his shortcut and what he's doing as they would consider it a forced/unatural process lacking the proper natural process of a slow drying/cureing.
Edit: Not complaining btw, why wait a few weeks to start brewing it up when you can get going before this weekend? Still gonna be awesome.

I chop them off almost at ground level, just under the lowest cone.
There are a few schools of thought. I believe that if you preserve them (dry/freeze, etc) that is the most important part so they don't get moldy, I dry mine, then freeze them as most recipes are assuming that one is using dried hops, although I have used fresh hops in the past. I have others drying on screens outside, also. When I eventually finish building my press-brake, I am going to put them in a die I made and plug them in 1/2 oz. plugs for easier measuring :aok
I have:
Nugget
Cascade
Stirling
Perle
Mt. Hood and
Hallertauer
The Nugget and Cascade fare the best out of them all. I can cut and send a few rhizomes to you next spring if you like. My sister just bought a farm a year or so ago and I am going to put a few more varieties at her house, also. My new favorite hop for brewing is Citra. They make an Awesome IPA with Chinook and Amarillo.
The Cascades that I grow here do not usually make it past the end of October as I usually use them to make about 20 gallons of a pumpkin lager to take to Punkin Chunkin every year. :rock

I should of added that this was my first year at growing them. I only yielded a few ounces wet.
I have some fruit trees in my backyard I plan on removing this year. I think I will start another trellis for some more varieties of hops.

Do you chop the vine at harvest? In other words, should I chop mine now?

I always have. Then I cut the first few bines that come up in spring. After that, I'll start training the best 2 or 3 bines after that clip any that come up afterwards so all the energy goes into those 2 or 3.
This year I didn't get to them in time (one of the crossmembers on my trellis was broken) and they literally took over the garden before I had a chance to train them. I broke a bunch of them trying to untangle them, so a few of them didn't fare so well.

I actually dry them on the screens first. The dehydrator is just to make sure all of the moisture is gone. I have had them get moldy in the past.

The jeep looks even better, draped in hops.

Oh! Oh. Good. I was thinking butt-nuggets for some reason.
Far tastier thread than I originally thought. Cool beans -- er, nuggets rather.
