Currently im interested in FSO, but i know little about it. So what exacly is it?
Is it basically where squads attempt to recreate famous Operations/orders they were given in WW2?
What are the requirments to join?
Can you decide whether to be allied/axis or is your side choosen for you?

Go to http://www.ahevents.org/ and look under the EVENTS tab at the top.
You can also pre-arrange a guest spot in this forum, but I would suggest that you look at the rules before attending. Vary different world form the MA

Welcome Tyrannis...
Hook up with an FSO squad that has open seats. Posting here like this is a great way to get started.
To answer some of your questions...
1) Yes and no. Historical battles are recreated, with the plane sets as close as they can get them with what we have to use. Objectives are issued to each side by the CM's for each frame. Then, orders and target assignments are written for each side by the CIC for each side for that frame. Then, squads come up with a plan to execute those orders.... be it attack, escort, or defend.
2) You can join a registered squad that is already in FSO, or... if you have friends that want to try FSO with you, you could start your own FSO squad. I would try it with another squad first though.
3) You can request axis or allies... usually, you get the side you want for the month. Sometimes though, there are just too many wanting one side or the other, and the CM's have to put your squad where they need to for balance.
Hope that helps some.

I see.
i was reading the AHevents section of FSO and it said something about guests could take up open seats in a squad.
Is that basically if someone wishes to try FSO out they can fly with a squad as a "quest" to see what its like with no obligations to perma-join that squad/etc?
Also, if i joined an FSO squad, do i have to quit my MA squad to be a part of that squad or..?

Correct... you are just being given a spot with them for that frame... if it works out... and you like them, and they like you... it could be come permanent. That is all internal to the squad itself. Once you are in the FSO arena, you are in that squad for that frame... no one but the squad you are flying with will know if you are a guest or a permanent member.
No... you could stay in your MA squad AND be in an FSO squad. Special Events Arena One has its own squads... just like the AvA and WW1 do. So you don't have to quit your main arena squad to take part in FSO.
Many of us are in a different MA squad than we are in FSO.

Well, I prefer to be in an allied squad. How might i go "guesting" in one tho? Just make a topic saying "hey, i'd like to try FSO out, hook me up"? or is there something more official to doing it?

That's all you need to do. Try posting a "Looking to try FSO" thread in this forum, put a note about your Allied preference in the body text. I bet you get at least three invitations the first day.
Enjoy! :salute

Tyrannis, I fly with VMF222, an axis squad. It is not my permission to give but I will ask our CO if he has a spot for you. Would you like to fly with us?
Please be advised this is a very structured event. We will have specific orders to follow. This is not the main arena. There is no "cowboy" lone gun flying or fighting here.

What type of aircraft does the VMF fly? or is it diff aircrafts for each event? (like, does vmf fly only 109s or do we have to switch?)

Each frame breaks down like this.
First is the Allies / Axis Squads are rated in sizes and by arranging them in a certain order it produces the aproximate size of each side.
Then the Squads They rangre from 4-6 to 16-21 their orders can be anything from bombing a target to flying a fighter sweep/ escort or Jabo.
They are 3 frames per setup Commander in Chief are selected randomly for each side and frame.
I hope this helps.
