Title: opinion on upgrades
Post by: guncrasher on September 18, 2011, 07:39:59 PM
I got a pretty fast system with a 2500k cpu, 16 gigs ram.  I play everything fully maxed with shadows at 4096 on 2 monitors.  i have an evga 465 superclocked video card. 2 hardrives a hitachi 1 t and a wd 750 both sata 2.

anyway my gf really pissed me off and I gonna spend her money since she's gone for at least 1 month and most likely 3, long story here.  being the cheapskate that I am, I want to spend it but not waste it.

question 1: is will it make a difference if I get a sata 3 hd?

question 2:  I want to get 3 monitors I have 2 23, 1080p,  an acer and a samsung.  I know i cant sli unless I buy the same vc, and that vc is out of production.  is there another vc you guys would recommend so that along with another monitor would play ah in 3 monitor mode w/o losing the great fr I already get?

or am I just gonna waste my her money?

will your motherboard support sata 3gb? even if it does, you probably would not notice the difference unless you but the latest generation of ssd drives.

i'd spend the money on something else, 40 inch monitor...new system...thrustmaster warthog hotas...  :D

Semp I don't know if there would be a difference ... but what about this for your 2nd vid card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130696 and this for your 3rd monitor.. it matches one of your monitors already ...LOL http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009266&cm_sp=Cat_Monitors-_-Best_Sellers-_-24-009-266

Yes a Vertex3 240Gb would be a good waste of money.

I would throw an OCZ Vertex 3 240 gig SSD ( any sata II or sata III OCZ SSD ) in one of my junk PCs  or give it away , if someone gave me one......then I would  go get a Crucial M4 256 gig SSD , more reliable less problems....... I would not sell the OCZ to someone else, just give it away with a warning, for I would not want to sell someone a possible eventual problem...........

Why not opt for an ATI Videocard that can do 1 to 6 monitors ( er eyefinity )........ should easily handle the 3 monitors you are wanting......... and also, over at newegg , they have been offering these combo's where you can get a bundle of 3 monitors & VC at a discount.... ( or opt for a NVidia Video Card that is capable of 3 monitors ???? do they make one capable enough to produce good FPS across 3??? )

but you should try and match up your monitors ----- go with 3 Acer's   or  go with 3 of  the samsungs............ if you can not find them new, buy em refurbished , they will still work....... then sell what ever you got left over , or keep it for emergency back up........

you never posted how much money she gave you or you took, to throw away/ blow / spend ????

save some to go party on ........... don't forget that  :aok
