See Rule #4
-
Yeah you hit the nail on the head with that picture. You aren't allowed to disagree with it though if you are in. If you disagree then you face NJP and possible discharge for unsuitability. That changed on monday. If you are straight and disagree you are the "leadership challenge" now.

This may not end well.

I don't see the big deal... the US Navy's been around for a couple hundred years.

If a person serves their country to the best of their ability I could care less who they sleep with at night.

you're missing the point raphael, the new rule now makes it more difficult if not impossible to enforce certain behaviors. there will undoubtedly be some modifications to the ucmj as unforseen situations arise. you have to also consider the centuries old traditions in place. women carrying weapons in hostile zones took decades to become a reality, even if they're not allowed on what is considered the front lines yet. with the new executive order, there are going to be problems. granted some distinguished careers will be saved but, what is the price really going to be in the long run? the majority of us don't live in a society of full acceptance as it is, there is always that invisible fence known as "tolerance".
who knows, maybe in a few more generations, it won't even be an issue.
personally, i'm tolerant but i wouldn't have wanted to be quartered with anyone who had that orientation. and for those who think they are "enlightened", try living in close quarters where privacy is at a minimum with 3 other people of the same sex that could decide to share a bunk together while you're in the room.
-
you have any sound logical reasons for the open closet in an environment where people of the same sex have to share close quarters and fight together? may as well make the living quarters co-ed and put women with men...wait, there's an idea. at least the women wouldn't have to worry about being sexually harrassed if they were quartered with gay males.
Well, Personally im nether for or against gays in the military (or in general).
I let people live their lives, and i personally dont get bothered by gays, unless they start to make approaches towards me or begin to make a scene around me with their actions.
I can see how some people are angry over gays being aloud in the military, but if you have someone willing to give his life to save yours, does it matter his sexuality?

For those that consider this a great advancement of society... Would you consider forcing women to shower with men to be a hostile work environment?

with my luck the woman i had to shower with would be the cg's daughter and there is no way he would believe i didn't intend to drop the soap at her feet.
-
Check six suddenly takes on several non air combat related meanings when gays, heteros, and females are all allowed to shower together.

Excuse me, but as a gay man who served honorably in the military I can assure you, I did not join to take showers with other guys. I can count the times I openly meat gazed on other guys in the showers on two hands and one foot. I didn't join for that, although it was an added perc- I joined because the uniforms made me look so butch.

well gyrene, certainly make a faries are welcome cartoon montage is not a good way to show that position, please explain to me (im not trolling, im asking please) do you mean you don't think this is progress because people will be ashamed of sharing a room to change clothes and such, but at the same time you think that with time this wont be an issue? because going by that line i think accepting IS the first step for it not beeing an issue in the future! so in the end it IS progress.
we had a case here in Brazil where a sargent and another guy in the army became partners, they were friends and then they just took the next step. at the same time they never did anything stupid while in duty time they even had to pretend to everyone else, but as sson as someone discovered (not in service like in a day off i guess) it became a matter of national news and stuff. What I am saying is: they even had a couple going on overthere and at the same time they never ever EVER did anything you know... while in duty. the sargent lost his place i guess and then he went to seek justice and such. when he got expeled THEN they started posting pictures to chock those stupid people :D

I have news for you, gays were already showering with straights in the military.
-
Only if they laughed at it
"It's called shrinkage!"
-
Erm, not you Raphael, it's just that the military has been steadily degenerating itself the past couple years, and now I'm glad I wasn't stupid enough to join.
I'll say this, God bless the efforts of all you gays to protect this country, but please, keep your nonsense to yourself.

Seems to me the guys worked up about this must be fighting their own feelings. Me thinks they protest too much!

Well maybe if all those guys weren't coming around undressing me with their eyes constantly thinking about hot sweaty showers with me I wouldn't get so worked up over it. Even the 'straight' ones. What is with you guys?!?! You all are SICK. The only person I'll give a mustache ride to is Mrs. wil3ur thank you... SICK... :bolt:

You tell the Wing Commander in the lead Spitfire that he wasn't man enough to fly combat.

no raph, i don't think our society in general let alone our military is ready for this, no more than sending women onto the front lines of battle. it may be progressive thinking to some but, all i have to do is look at the civilian world to get an idea of how the military will be affected. it's going to cause a rift in the ranks and the strength that esprit de corps brings to fighting units will suffer. it's going to be worse than when the u.s. military decided to completely desegregate. even while i was in, there was unacknowledged racial tension among the ranks, and that was 33 years after president truman signed the executive order. gays have never been openly accepted in the u.s. military, especially in the enlisted ranks.
i'm open minded to a point but i have my limitations and being forced to share 200 feet of living space with 3 other people, any number of which could be openly gay, is not my idea of the proper way to maintain troop morale or unit cohesion. unfortunately, i would have to personally witness an act of valor under fire before i would allow a gay individual to even share my combat rations with. going into combat with a female officer in charge would be easier to deal with.
how long will it be until a demands are made to be allowed to wear opposite gender uniforms just because someone feels they should be allowed to based on their psycholgical orientation? how long before a demand is made to be allowed to have a gender change, courtesy of the tax payers because the person is active duty military and all medical benefits are paid?
-
So your primary concern of being in close proximity with a homosexual is that you're concerned they'll be so engrossed with their desires to participate in anal sex with you it will compromise their fighting ability? In addition to that, which would be a legitimate grip if it were remotely based in reality, you're concerned that because you're showering with them they'll be so engrossed in the fact you've got the same plumbing they do they'll be so enamored with yours with resulting compromise their ability to be a proper Marine?
You're not the only one that seems to have those ideas and frankly it's quite funny since it speaks more to the sexual insecurity of those with those ideas than the fact a perfectly good fighting soldier/sailor/Marine has a boyfriend.
Gay dudes make the best wingmen. Hands down. Bar none. Without a doubt. While being a service member might pull its fair share of tail, if you want quality AND quantity then having a gay dude attract the ladies like moths to a flame is a sure fire tactic. I have to attribute pulling more strange to a little dude from my airline days named Paolo. Good company, had the ladies flocking and was good for car and sports talk. I never once was concerned that one of us would trip on something and his noodle would somehow find its way into any of my orifices.
