Quick question here guys as the other day I was goofing off in the early war arena. What are the exact years that the early war arena covers? Reason I ask is that in our early war arena at the V bases we have the 17lb gun and the 17lb gun didnt come out of production to around the end of 1942. Just curiosity as to if we have a gun in an arena that was not available? I know it wont change the game but just got me to wondering about it.
Thanks
BigKev

1941 is definately within early war paramiters. so yes it would fit in there.

I believe EW covers 1939 to late 1941/early 1942.
I think all the hardness/etc should be toned down for EW. You basically are expecting planes like the b25, to pull off the roll b17s/24s pull off in LW, with LW settings.
I think its one of the main reasons the place doesnt get much use, you have planes who were obsolete by 1944,fighting against the same settings 1944-style planes compete with.
Edit: Wiki has the gun being deisgned in 1941, and production starting in 1942, But it also says the first types of 17lbers didnt see service until February 1943. If thats true, then no, they dont belong in EW,

Tyrannis, thanks for the follow up info. I agree that in EW you have a handicap with the settings and if the info you posted is correct and the 17lb gun did not see service till 1943 then we do have a gun that didnt exist available in the EW.
Thanks to everyone for the input.

How would you define "introduced"?
The second paragraph states in more detail what wiki was saying about 1943.
As the first guns were being produced news of the appearance of the German Tiger Tank, so about 100 17-pdr barrels were fitted to 25-pdr carriages, as the proper 17-pdr split-trail carriages were not ready, and flown to North Africa, in 1943, to counter this new threat. The guns were code named "Pheasant" (officially known as 17-pdr MK2) and proved remarkably stable and robust in use, shown left. They served until the correct mounts were available. It should be noted that although these guns were rushed to North Africa to combat the Tiger tank, it was in fact a 6-pdr, which claimed the first Tiger "kill". The gun went on to be mounted in the Sherman "Firefly", the Challenger Tank and the Achilles and Archer Tank Destroyers.

What hardness? Do you mean buildings?

some sources say april, but most say august 1942.
The first production guns were completed in April 1942 and by the end of the year 670 of the guns had been completed.

Is the Spitfire Mk IX available, even perked, in the EWA? If so that would put the EWA to at least mid-1942.
A bigger problem for the EWA than the 17lber is the radar proximity fused rounds on the CV groups. Those are definitely not appropriate to the EWA and will make the task groups much more resistant to D3A/B5N2/SBD-5 attack than they ought to be.

Bases are also too heavily defended. All large caliber weapons (quad 20mm's and 37mm's) and NO small caliber weapons (.30/.50 cal). Ships that are in use are Late War variants I believe. When war started, ships didn't have nearly as much AA guns. They didn't think air power would play a huge role at sea and instead, thought it would be Ship-to-Ship combat. So a lot of room was used for ship-to-ship weapons. I believe the Japanese ships at the start of the war, had more AA guns per ship class vs the rest of the world. But they too had to make room for more AA guns as the war progressed. Could be wrong on this though. Someone will clarify for sure. :aok
