Title: More control over ammo load
Post by: STEELE on September 25, 2011, 04:44:54 PM
I'd like the option to not load the cowl gun magazines in a 190 a5 for example..  takes to long to empty them, and the ballistics are way too different in many planes' cannon vs cowl guns

How much does the ammo weight?

+1. Theres many planes i wish i could spawn without certain ammo with.

I kinda wish we had the choice to "mod" the guns in bombers too. (example: Take out the waist guns in the b17 to make more room for ammo in the tail)

Even though the ammo weight might not make a significant difference by itself but it will change the CV. For airplanes that have guns on the nose (such as a mossy or P38) the removal of ammo will make you more maneuverable.

Also just sitting there on the runway and emptying your guns will make a significant difference in your hit %.

Exactly, and your not hitting anything either. So the percentage of your hits that actually hit an enemy target decreases.

Aircraft did not fly sorties with those guns unloaded.  Bf110s did not fly without the tail gunner.

I thought by the end of the war (when Germany was low on ammo) not all guns were loaded 100% before take off.

+1.  The 110 would be a lot more fun if I could empty the tail guns in the hanger :)

"A lot more fun"?  Really?

Does that 50-100lbs really make that much difference on a 15,000lb fighter?

Get a grip people.

I would defy any player to fly a plane and be able to tell without looking at the ammo counters or e6b whether the guns are loaded or not, with the possible exception of the extreme cannon birds like the 110G2 or the P47 max loadout.

However, I would love to be able to tell the crew chief to remove those ghastly 12.7mm's in the nose of my K4 as they're just dead weight. ;)

Good news.  I had him remove them and put in 13mm guns instead.  :p
