Title: BBS requirements
Post by: morfiend on September 28, 2011, 04:51:36 PM
My wish is that the amount of post your aloud per day be tied to your subscription.

IE: no subscription to game then your limited to say 3 post per day,I wouldn't want to see it so you had to subscribe to post but I think there needs to be a reasonable limit in place. This would make some posters think twice before they post!

Of course if you are a player with an account I don't think you need your posts limited but there are exceptions!

   :salute

PS: I have the asbestos underwear on so flame away!

I don't care about volume as long as the posts are of substance.  If anything, simply replying "+1" or "-1" with no other input or feedback shouldn't add to one's post count.

Question: Does post count even matter?  :headscratch:

Question: Does post count even matter?  :headscratch:

Quantify something and it will always become a "who's is bigger" contest to some.

Question: Does post count even matter?  :headscratch:
No, absolutely not.  Every post should be taken in turn and its substance, points and validity considered independently of the author.

I've always rather wished we had a board which included a "rep" system, wherein you can give or take reputation from someone for the quality of each of their posts, which is displayed next to their post count.

But, then again, this game has such a group-based sect, I'd be afraid of the "mass reporting effect."

HEY HEY HEY!!! I don't have the money for a paying subscription, but why should I not be allowed to voice my opinion about the game?!?! I still play Aces High, just can't play online.

My immediate reponse to most of these "If you don't have a paying subscription, you can/can't _______" is a -1.

Plain and simple.

I liked it better when people just asked for only "wishes that made sense" to be posted.

No, I don't have a working solution either.

Not sure that could work very well, the BBS ID in most cases is not the same as a player’s game ID.  How would AH know who on the BBS was a paying customer?   But It might be nice for the paying customers to have an area that only paying customers could get to.  A benefit of being a subscriber.   After all, if it’s possible to play the game and not pay, what’s the benefit of paying?  An area that the paying customer could use to discuss items for the game or a customer wish list.

You already have the choice to not read somebody that spams the board. You don't even have to see their posts.  :aok

yup, goto "profile" at the top of this page, and click on "personal messages" and in the big box type in each name you wish to ignore, one per line and click save.

I did see the Personal Message Options before but assumed it only applied to PMs. because it only mentions PMs ... :bhead

It was "slotted" in there since this BBS software had to be "hacked" to allow post ignoring and it already included a buddy system (that, by extension, could be used as an anti-buddy system) under that settings page. It came about after a bunch of us (including me) started whining to get it back after the last BBS software change.

i +1 this.

people without subscriptions shouldn't even be aloud to comment on game-related wishes and changes IMO. its like a guy who's jobless trying to tell you how to run your buisness.

And for people who did have a subscription in the past, make it where if you had a paying subscription for atleast a Year, your aloud full privileges even if you cancel your account. a way to say "thank you".

I was hoping to see an end to the endless drival of certain posters.I could care less if people post in most forums because as someone said I have a choice to read them or not but as a trainer I must read the help and training forum to keep tab on things.

When I see people trolling the help forum it just burns me for whatever reason and that's the reason for my request.Admittedly I posted it out of frustration and it wasn't the most well thought out request but it is what it is.

I guess if I'm letting a game get the better of me it's time to rethink why I'm even here!

I disagree with your last line of your post I quoted, Moriend,

I TOO get PO'ed at how certian individuals do not use the rules for posting on these forums, that is listed /sticky'ed at the top of every forum

I also do a lot of "Report to moderator"  clicks and post my reasoning for the reporting that particular user

I have requested several times that once a person registers  to play online that that player also had to register to the Ah messageboards and have their gameid sync'ed up to their messageboard username, even if the 2 are not the same..........

it makes the new player aware of the messageboards, instead of them finally stumbling across them 2 or 3 years later, for one thing!

and another would be that it helps others who might know who a player is online but don't know it is the same person on the messageboards  or vice versa

there are a few other things this could help but my mind is drawing a blank right this moment........... I have requested this several times though....

edit: and I also like the reputation  + -  suggestion......  to use on replies like #18 of this thread......

you didn't have anything positive to add so you post a rollseyes  emoticon,  how mature of you

Well, I think that if your posts have such poor spelling and grammar as shown above, then one should not be allowed to post as frequently as if one had near-perfect posts.

By the way, green text shows poor grammar, and red shows spelling errors.

Well,I realize your still in school and can use proper english and I suppose your spelling would be better than mine too.

I never knew it was a requirement on the internet,am I being graded?  Did I pass?   Good thing I'm not worried about this as I'm well past caring about marks or grades or even what I'm going to do when I grow up!

what about not beeing able to post if you show yourself as non deserver of respect at all? my point is, let whoever that wants to post just do it, no need to pay per post or limit just because you don't agree with some kind of posts. anyway sorry about the sarcasm, just wanted to show the point.

why not just reserve certain parts of the BB for paying subcribers and have a section open to whomever. Personallly I don't care since the BB seems to be the same few narcissists comparing manhood most of the time.

I didn't say it was a requirement. I was simply hinting at the availability of spell-check, and how, if one is not going to use it, then one should type correctly.

Also, I was not referring solely to you. I really meant a large number of people who are on this forum. Personally, if you would like to show how you show very little regard for your native language (just an assumption, that is) that you have, I cuoldn't care less. :) No problem with that. I was simply pointing out the fact that, unless something is grammatically correct, and has perfect spelling, then I would most certainly not trust that the idea/thought that you've just had is worth taking seriously.

Nothing personal!

:)

How will connecting the forum username to AH username make the forum not entertaining?
The only thing that will change is you'll actually know who the person is.

Matching names is included in the partially. :)

There was nothing wrong with posting a roll eyes. The boards even have emoticons included.
