Dope sick from pain meds taken for cancer treatment(prescription, of course)....  You don't understand sick until you've been through opiate withdrawal..
I kicked on my own without any meds until the third week when I finally started going out of my mind from lack of sleep....
Opiates scare the crap out of me now and I always ask for something non-narcotic if I ever need a pain reliever....

I got the flu once, and then I got pneumonia while I still had the flu. I felt like I couldn't breathe and had a fever of 103.9, I was really sick for 2 weeks and missed 11 days of school.

About 3 years ago I got sick at church camp along with 90% of the people that were there. This was the same time as the Swine Flu Outbreak. Doctors said it there was a good chance it was Swine Flu but the test they did was accurate about 50% of the time so there was no way to tell. Regardless of what it was I was sick for 2 weeks. Threw up like I never had before, diarrhea, fever peaked around 104, all that good stuff. After 1 week of being sick the doctor gave me a steroid shot and in the process hit the main nerve running down my left leg and I couldn't walk for another 2 weeks and it was almost a month before the soreness went away. Between the 1 week of church camp and the 3 weeks of trying to get better I missed a little over a month of work.

:salute to Irish for beating cancer

:salute  to all the guys that have beat cancer.   as you guys already know, it's a lifelong thing you have to deal with.  the checkups, the worrying that every little pain or every mole or every cough might be your cells mutating and multiplying.  sounds paranoid, i know, but after hearing the doctors tell you you will always be at an extremely high risk, it's hard not to think that way.   i had mine when i was quite young.   i'd say the guys who had to deal with it in adult life deserve a  :salute the most.

Good on all the guys that beat cancer, and good on Anodizer for getting through the opiate withdrawal.  I don't think anybody who's gone through either of those has any yardstick for comparison.

MASSIVE food poisoning had me going through AHTbolt's symptoms for 3 days straight.  The first 2 days, I was afraid I was going to die.  On the third day, I was afraid I wasn't going to die.

:lol     the situation in and of itself isn't funny, but when you put it that way, i can relate and chuckle.   been there man, when you have to go to the toilet every 10 minutes even tho you haven't had anything to give for 36 hours.......that's a torture i hope i never feel again.   note: don't eat the chicken you forgot to put away last night

well I had very severe stomach pain about 13 years ago.....so severe I could not verbalize words, crawled out of my bathroom on my knees, my buddy that was there was like "dood you need to go to the hospital?"....all I could do was nod my head

(trust me I am not one to go to the hospital, I had a gator almost ripped 3 fingers off and never went)

in the emergency room, the nurse asked me on the scale of 1-10 what is the pain level?  I yell "its a  fluff'n 15"  10 minutes later they where shooting me up with Demoral......next four days I was on Demoral and Morphine....after 4 days they took me off the Morphine and just kept me on the 6 minute drip demoral

(when they combine Demoral and Morphine you get serious Hallucinations  :D

come to find out I had acute Pancreantitus and should be dead....

I spent 1 month in the hospital and was tube feed...for the next 3 half months I had a visiting nurse and was tube feed at home.....so imagine 4 and 1 half months I lived and not one bit of food could I eat.......

I have seen 3 people die myself of what I have....I should have been dead, but yet here it is 13 years later and still struggling with it....if I eat to much fat I will get the stomach pains so I try to keep my fat intake low.....I am supposed to only eat 10 grams of fat a day :O

I went from 270 to 175 in 6 months.....hehe shoulda heard the rumors.....

Reminds me of the second-sickest I've ever been.  When my appendix decided to inflame on me, I wound up going to the ER at about 4:30 in the morning after about 6 hours of bad symptoms.  I got into the ER at 4:30 AM, didn't get to see a doctor til about 1:00 PM due to the fact that a couple of inconsiderate guys decided that morning was the right time to crash their ultralight, and they were occupied putting them back together.

Spent the entire morning passing in and out of consciousness on a bed in the ER.

At around 1:00 PM, a doctor and a bunch of med students came around, learning about stuff.  They were pretty sure I had appendicitis, so they used me for a training dummy so they could feel how an appendicitis patient's abdominal muscles tense up when you poke the right side of their abdomen.  After the fifth student, my eyes kind of hardened up when I looked at the doctor and commented that I believed I was done putting up with that.  Did I mention they hadn't actually diagnosed me officially, so I hadn't had any painkillers yet?

So they officially diagnosed me, and gave me Demerol.  If that's the non-addictive friendly cousin of morphine, I hope I never need morphine.  That was a trip.  I could still feel the pain somewhat, but I just didn't care. :)

1 AM the next day, I got surgery time and they popped my appendix out.  Based on the size of the scar (5 inches) I've got compared to a lot of other appendix scars I've seen, either my doctor was Wilt Chamberlain or it was about to burst.

Mumps, Measles and Meningitus all in 1 go - woke up christmas day covered in spots, big lumps in my throat and unable to bear light. Fast forward a few weeks, got home, tripped on the doorstep, fell down all 4 steps and broke my wrist.

I was only 7 at the time, life was so unfair.

for typical illnesses: chicken pox at age 20.

after the first 48 hours of passing out inbetween bouts of dysentry-like symptoms I couldnt keep even water down for 2 days, and it was 6 days til I could manage solids again. I couldnt believe how badly an illness that kids shrug off with a few pock marks floored me for a full 3 weeks.

If you got kids make sure they get chicken pox, measles and mumps while they're young*. they probably wont thank you, even later, but you are doing em a big favour :aok

Lets see.. it depends on degrees of severity.

When I was 16 I remember getting a fever so high I was literally having micro-convulsions along my spine, arms and legs. Funny thing was even though I was running a high temperature and having all that I didnt feel sick at all. In fact I felt like I had all the energy in the world to get up and go play soccer for the whole day.

When 19 here in the US, in my first halloween here, I traded my kid cousin some candy for all the butterfingers he had on his bag. I LOVE butterfingers. I ate like 20 of the damn things that night.

... of course, that meant that for the next 4 days I could not crap. literally. Butterfingers had become butter-butt-plug and NOTHING would come out.

That is the most horrible sick time I've ever had. To this day I LOVE butterfingers but just SEEING or SMELLING one triggers an instant rejection response.  :_(

and finally, while not 'sick' ... my doctor prescribed I take niacin tablets to help lower my cholesterol. Problem is, taking one of those made every millimeter of my body turn cooked-shrimp red and feel like I was badly, badly sunburned for hours. When I mean everywhere I mean EVERYWHERE. Under my fingernails, my eyelids, between my buttcheeks and other places I cannot mention.

Tac you owe me a new keyboard ya sod!!

2nd most serious time I spent in hospital was after seeing one of the navy's scab lifters - gave me amoxycillin for a chest infection. That was when I found out I was allergic to amoxycillin. Was on the way to pick exwife up from where she was working, pushing daughter in pram. Came to a crossing, got half way across and collapsed. Ambulance took me to the naval hospital in Plymouth (where exwife was working in Casualty). Door opened and out came daughter in pram, followed by me on a trolley still holding the handles lol......She wasnt happy. That said, neither was I. Shipmates were, stopped them sailing for 2 weeks as I underwent tests for Legionaires disease and various other things.

6 weeks of hourly blood taking - put me off needles I can tell ya lol.......

Best thing tho, I had a television in my isolation room, so I could watch the rugby in peace and quiet!!!.

I had a tooth infection, it started while I was in Iraq, pulled the tooth in Baghdad, came home, dentist put an implant, a titanium spike to receive a fake tooth, it came out, came back home, another implant, it broke away from the bone, OUCH.  Then the tooth next to the original started to decay, turns out the infection from the original moved to the next tooth. They pulled it, and then put me on Antibiotics.  Very serious antibiotics, I literally spent a week on the commode, if I was awake I was setting on the throne.  You have heard about ring around the collar, I had ring around the butt cheeks, that took 3 weeks to go away.I thought I was going to die from dehydration, thank god I have a loving wife, she would walk thru the stench to bring me water.  My sense of smell hasn't been the same sense.

Woke up back in March to what felt like total paralysis. i could not move, could not set up. if i tried, it felt like my back was broken.  i had no idea what was going on. no one was home. and it felt like i was bleeding. i was able to reach for the phone next to my ed and dial 911, but i couldnt actually bring it up to my face to speak. So i just kept hanging up and dialing. they eventually sent someone out. which i yelled as loud as i could for them. they heard me.

I was taken to the hospital, im not sure what all they did. Because they gased me a few mins after i got there. But from what i understand, i had a(its pronounce sythe, but i dont believe its spelled like that) that had actually dug into my lower back. and attached itself to my spine. it was starting to grow up my spine, which was what had caused my paralysis. luckily, they were able to remove it. but boy, the headache i had from being gased was worse than any of the pain that thing had caused me. they say i prob picked it up from playing so much football. the dirt and everything.

it got worse tho, they gave me some medicine after i was released.  what they didn't know tho, was that i have high blood pressure. one of the pills i was taking was raising my blood pressure. until one day i was coming out of a gas station with my cousin and i was feeling very very lightheaded, my knees kept getting weak, then finally i just kind passed out. Ending up slamming my head against the hood of his car.

Im better now, and dont seem to have anything wrong with me. but that was the sickest ive ever been.

I forget what they call it, but the mortality rate was about %100 before penicillin.  It's like a bad case of sinusitis.   I went to the Dr. on Tuesday and by Friday morning, I took a ride in a ambulance to the Hospital.

I don't remember anything from Thursday night, and until Sunday afternoon.  I had a sinus so infected and blocked, that it caused a large lump to bulge across my forehead.  It also caused the same bulge to go the opposite way against my brain.  At first, they didn't know if the bulge was caused from me hitting my head or from an infection (I couldn't tell them, I was lights out), They finally operated Sunday morning, and I regained conscious that afternoon.  I was in the hospital for 10 days.  Had to take inject myself with tubes of antibiotics for 6 more weeks, twice per day, then after about 3 months another surgery that they drilled a hole in my forehead.  Wow, that hurt for a couple days.

Worst I've ever been is a tie- when I was about 12 or 13, had bronchitis, sinus infection and inner ear infection all at the same time- between the head spinning from the inner ear infection and the general disorientation from the fever, I had to be guided from my bed to bathroom that was on the other side of the door.

The second was about 6 or 7 years ago, got a bad case of food poisoning. Didn't leave the bathroom (literally) for two days, then was so weak I could hardly move for another three. When you can't hold down a sip of water for half a week... yeah. Between the lack of sleep, dehydration and inability to eat for almost a week, I was a wreck by the end of the week, and I'd lost about fifteen pounds in five days.

Back in August of 09, just a week prior to starting my sophomore year of college, I came down with a strain of tick fever known as "Ehrlichiosis" I believe. It started out similar to the flu: Ran a high fever, ached all over, and couldn't keep any food or liquids in me. A couple of days into that, I had to be taken the hospital because I was so dehydrated and sick. Spent three days in UAMS hooked up to an IV, taking several tests and slipping in and out of consciousness due to a fever well over 103 degrees F. I had absolutely no control of my bowels and had a puke bucket on standby at all times. I don't even remember my former youth minister coming to see me. The thing about tick fever is that there is no direct test for it, you just have use process of elimination and a background check (I'm a forester, spent the entire summer cruising timber and battling bugs). But the day I was discharged from the hospital I felt 10 times better and was back to what seemed like 100% by the end of the week. At my lowest, I felt like I was going to die...for real, no joke.

While this was going on, I was also battling a leg infection caused by a vascular ulcer because I was born with a compressed vein, which prevented blood flow in my legs. Took 6 years of my highschool and college life for them to figure it out, but when they finally put a stint in to open it up the ulcer went completely away. It was the most excruciating and frustrating 6 years of my life, I look back on it and feel so happy for it to be over.

Asian flu back in the seventies as a kid. Three weeks of ravings and fever. The ceiling coming down to meet me, the bed forming razor edges. Having to move millions of tiny objects one at a time on the floor. It was a bad trip as was the fashion back then.

Since then no problem, worst thing for me was my lovely wife in pain during labour. She squashed my hand between the headboard of the bed and her head in her pain. Never want to experience anything like it again.

Currently I'm on three tablets a day, for blood pressure and cholestrol, keeping me alive I suppose but I'm not sick. I'm lucky.

Wiley.
lol morphine...pretty trippy. had it a few times while i was in the hospital for a week, kinda felt like i was floating :lol. My mom said i was the funniest ive probably ever been during that (i had like one joke after another and was talking outa my head)

5 mm elongated Kidney stone lodged just above bladder for about 48 hrs.  Couldn't do anything.  Couldn't stand, couldn't sit, couldn't lay down.  Couldn't even couldn't.  Miserable suffering.

I can relate to the Pancreatitus posters here, back when this game was first around I had a bad case of this, which happened to coincide with cancerous growths in my colon.  My doctor initially told me that I had pancreatic cancer, and I fell into a really deep depression having lost a family member to this and knowing all about its survival rates etc.  Well, it turned out God gave me a break that year, and while it turned out that my cancer was succesfully treated, and I suffered through the pancreatitus in the hospital for a far longer period of time compared to the gross time spent for treatments for cancer.  Crazy.

I felt great from 2001 to 2009, and spent much of my time working in Afghanistan, Jordan, Africa, and the rest of the time in my native land of Alberta.

Then in 2009 I began to feel the sickest I've ever been, as the OP title asks, and the doctors couldn't figure out wtf was wrong with me.  Five different doctors in two different countries, and none of the could figure out what was wrong with me and why I was in such agony.  Multiple medical tests of every kind, and the only thing that really stood out was some returned colon polyps that had no cancer returns after being cut out.  I was in constant pain, mainly my GI tract, but my joints and head as well.  Of course not being able to work was really screwing with my life, and being in the middle of a divorce didn't help matters much either.  I was on the verge of insanity, getting no answers and getting progressively worse.  I decided to start researching things on my own, and after this strange rash showed up on my face a nurse I knew that was helping me out said I should get my anti nuclear antibody tested for Lupus and see a Rheumatlogist that specialized in Lupus as she suspected that's what was messing my system up so much.

Well it turns out that I was not just positive, but VERY positive for Lupus, and that I in fact had beaten the normal time it takes the Lupus patient to get a diagnosis, even though it was nearly a year and a half of hell prior to this.  Unfortunately the treatment options for Lupus are very limited, and after a short time on Prednisone I developed a bad reaction to it, and it would send my blood sugar into the stratosphere and put me back into the hospital several times.  This drug is the "heavy hitter" for treating Lupus, with anti-malarial drugs being the off-label 2nd tier treatment which doesn't help much being my only option until the first new drug for Lupus in 50 years is finally released (it's approved, just not available yet).

So to answer the question, right now is the sickest I've been, with a life-threatening illness with no cure in sight that affects 15 times more women than men...just my luck.  It's considered by Hopkins to be one of the most difficult diseases to treat, with 19 different ways it affects the brain being identified alone, along with the system-wide issues it can cause by attacking any organ in the body at any time, without my rhyme or reason.  Of course they prescribe very powerful painkillers if you want them, but all they do is cover the pains you get a little bit for a short while, and then you're back to square one.
