I found the pic of what i consider one of the nicest looking p51's ive ever seen. the question is tho, was it a REAL p51? Im not very good for research, so i thought i'd post the pic here for the research buffs to look into. If it was, then i'd very much wish for it to be in game. It would replace my current fav p51 skin. :x

lol from the kid who tried to mask his laziness by saying "im not good at research." you found the picture, didn't you? how much harder would it have been to look into it a little bit? have fun getting anywhere in life trying to get everyone else to whitewash the fence for you.
What he said.

I found the pic by typing "ww2 backgrounds" into yahoo's image search and searching threw the pages.
There was no info on it from where i found it, it was just -There-. My past attempts to find info on aircraft satisfied no one on this board to i figured i'd post it and ask someone who's considered more qualified in the BBS's eyes to find the info and post it.
So i look up the info, i get critsized.
I ask someone more knowledgable to do it, i still get critisized.
w.e
But getting back to the topic at hand. Any skinners willing to add this their skinner queue? would be greatly appreciated. :salute

ty for that link.
Maj. Edward B Giller. C.O. of 343rd Fighter Squadron. P-51D 44-14985 "The Millie G". This was one of four Mustangs bearing the name of his wife Mildred, the other three being 44-15701, 44-63204 and 44-72123. Four P-38s, similarly named, preceeded the P-51s.

While I raise an eyebrow at the more acerbic types in all honesty I typed in 'The Millie G' into Google and bam.. done..

well that raises an eyebrow to me, because the last letter on the end of that plane looks like a P to me, not a G. maybe one of the p51's out of the 4 to have this design had a P instead of a G, or maybe the painter of the pic got it wrong.

As I had previously linked here:

The forum discussion in the first result after searching ""The Millie P" P-51D" explained why some sources (incorrectly) say it is a P, when in fact it is a G.

(http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o318/CharlesMetz/TheMillieG300dpi_closeup.jpg)(http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o318/CharlesMetz/TheMillieG-caption150dpiq8.jpg)
It is an odd font but if you really look at it (and consider the pilot's name was Ed Giller) it is more of a G than a P.

A very well known Mustang. The stripe in the picture posted by the OP is actually red not yellow. There were 4 Millie G's One of them actually still survives, although not in the WW2 markings as it served with a number of countries before ending up in the Dominican Republic

There is another Mustang restored in those colors although not the real wartime bird.

I got back into ww2 ac models, starting with the monogram p-51d done up as miss marilyn.. same colors as the millie g.

eh,
I think the green looks better on the airframe than that Brown.
-
it's not brown, it's a glossy olive drab.
almost like the real deal

It's a cursive 'G', but I don't believe cursive is taught in schools anymore.

So, is the original a light green like in the pic i posted, or that olive drab in your pic?
I think the light green looks much better on the airframe IMO.

....and the artist that painted the picture thought it looked nicer too, but that doesn't make it right. The Olive Drab color is the right one.

did you look at the colors around the prop? i'm betting the "areteest" who painted that image you found thought the same as you. it just wouldn't be correct though. olive drab was an easy color to find in the supply depots. almost all military vehicles and some aircraft were painted with it.
whether or not the light green is historically correct around the nose is another story.

guilty. :neener:
