If this base were oriented NW/SE, it would be useable.  There are more than a few fields on various maps with layouts that don't fit the terrain.
I will even volunteer to check every one if they can be corrected.

Those are the fields where we got to do the old fashion grass take off.  :airplane:

Try that with a formation of bombers or a 262.

you can tell the mapmaker was either
A: not very smart
B: not a bomber pilot
or
C: all of the above.

but why were these bases even placed there in the first place? shouldnt you at least give some room to get off the runway with bombers on that field....?

Maybe it's a challenge. Maybe you've got to turn fairly tightly... use full flaps and get up early. That's what I would do.

I know that field, 91st used to launch off it fairly regularly.  It took a little skill, and it wasn't uncommon to lose a pilot or two on the first try, but it can be done.

I'm not saying it should not be fixed, it was just a joke.

The only thing you can't up there is a formation of B-29s

Go on and up a set of bombers and see if you keep your drones.  Feel free to post the film.  It is a stupid runway alignment in any case.  No runway in recorded history ever had mountains at both ends.

I think it's cool.

In real life there are plenty of difficult airports.

that base is harder to vulch and bomb to hell as you dont see the base until you are almost on top of it.  I have taken off in b26s and b24s just spawn with throttle in idle, step on the brakes, increase full throttle till buffs starts doing the low rider thing, release brakes, hold on, use flaps and rudder once airborn, turn and that's it.  never tried in b17s or lancs and sure as hell wouldnt want to up a b29.

Sure there are difficult airport, but I have yet to see an airport where it's impossible to line up on to either runway.

I just got a b29 out of there with 50% fuel and 40 x 1000 pound bombs using only the runway.

I also got a ar234 out with 3x500, 50% fuel, and without firing the retros but instead leaving them on the plane for use at a later time in the mission.

40x1000lb bombs? is that even possible? I thought it was 500 lbs?

1000x40=40,000
its only possible on a B-52...:noid

and yes, its 500 pounds. the B-29 can hold up to 20k of ords.

sorry....it is 500s.

Still....I believe that is near maximum load and the b29 took off fine from that small field.

Either way.....I put near maximum load on the two airplanes with the longest take off runs and got out on the first try.
