Having to buy new monitor.....have never even HEARD of this input-type until I saw it on BestBuy's site

in simplest terms, it's a content protection hardware standard. if you're going to use a dvi or hdmi connection to the television then both devices must be hdcp ready.

Sort of depends on what you're using the display for. Currently it's a non-factor when it comes to games, it is critical if you plan on hooking up a blu-ray player. The current generation of blu-ray players will not output 1080P on anything but DVI/HDMI.
oh how I loathe HDCP.
