I thought it would be nice if Aces High had a flamethrower tank. What it could be strong at is somethign to discuss
I couldnt find any specs on the tank, but I was thinking this could be an ord. loadout for the M4 instead of a new tank altogether.
EDIT:Alright after a quick shower Ive organized my thoughts so ill explain in more detail.
First off lets talk vehicle on vehicle; I was thinking that certain gv's would have different uh resistance to fire then others. Armored and closed-roof vehicles would be more resistant to the damage as opposed to open topped vehicles such as the jeep and M3/M16. Open topped vehicles would be killed fairly quick vice-versa, but normally when you die your vehicle blows up the moment you perish. I believe that if you die from fire damage the vehicle will linger awhile before exploding.
Now onto structures and what nots; Every structure will have different resistances to fires (obviously), but the part i wanted to explain was how to counter the fire damage to buildings. Each town would have a fire station, police and so on, but the police and hospital are purely aesthetic in game except for the fire station which would send out 2 fire trucks whenever a building bursts into flames to go and combat the fire. The trucks will be able to be destroyed (of course) and will regenerate when a certain amount of supply convoys "unloaded" in town, for example every 5 resupplies 1 fire truck would regenerate and so on.

but what would you do with it? How would the damage work? Im not saying no outright but I think there is alot more to this then just throwing it into the game. How long should a panzer be on fire before it "dies" or a hanger or ords bunker. Ho long does atown building gotta burn to be destroyed?

What would we do with a flamethrower? You can't just drive up to another tank and try to burn him, well you can if he's AFK but the odds are he'll kill you first.
Until we get new terrain that can burn, a flamethrower will be useless.

i was thinking it could excel at destroying structures and cutting down paratroopers.

flamethrowers were anti-personnel weapons, used against enemy soldiers inside fortifications. not sure how one would be useful in ah unless maybe they made structures flammable, then you could burn a town down.

I like the bit about the fire engines... They would make the towns seem less abandoned completely, and more just somewhat evacuated. :D

yeah them towns are ghost towns, no signs of life at all yet they play a huge part when capturing bases

There is no reason to have a flame thrower tank in AH, especially when none of the game mechanics support it.

You know I would much rather have infantry put in 1st then lets think of ways to kill them. Also The flame thrower seems like it would take along time to get a town down. Why not just up a tank with he? I guess we could use the flamethrower to burn the Skunk ape out of hiding :bolt:

lol well what i thought over when writing this (showering :P) was certain buildings burning down faster then others, so pending on what type of buildings the town consists of would decide how much time it'd take to destroy it :banana:

I love to use weapons in ways they were not intended. :D I've upped a Sherman Calliope with the intent of using it as an AA platform several times, although I've only shot down a CV with it. :(
