Title: IL-2 Shturmovik flies again!
Post by: Bino on October 14, 2011, 10:24:54 AM
The one and only airworthy IL-2 made its first flight yesterday, having been rebuilt "for an American collector" (hmmm... Paul Allen? article does not say by whom this was commissioned) in Novosibirsk.

Over 36,000 were built, yet this is the only one that can take to the air.  Nice little video, in Russian, on this page...

Cool, glad it's been noted.  :aok

I was able to puzzle out enough of the Cyrillic to realize that the older gentleman in the spiffy uniform with a chest-full of medals is Alexander Yefimov, himself!  The restored plane is painted to look like one that he flew back in the day.
