I remember seeing this in film class in high school in 1979. I had totally forgotten about it until a friend sent me the link, just thought i'd pass it along.
...ever raced thru Paris at 5 am?

Nothing like the sound of a V-12 from a Ferrari 275GTB. I remember this vaguely as well.

:O What a great video.

Glad I am not wearing underwear...otherwise I would have to change them after watching this..

Now I can prove to my daughters that yes, there were cars around the year I was born. :old:

not that fast and plainly in a horrible understeery boat of a car on nasty 70s tyres. it didnt look much fun to drive. before hitting wiki I guessed a merc or citroen (good ride but too heavy/rolly/understeery) and surprised it was the 6.9, I thought they would be quicker. maybe the 450SEL's preformance is just legend.
the ridiculous overdubbed soundtrack really ruins it for me. I know the bullet chase scene is overdubbed, but at least its been replaced with a race built version of the same configuration so it sounds right. this just makes no sense.
meh.

you old woman...
wished i could have driven through a city in a "heavy/rolly/understeery" car like that back in the 70s. had a lot of fun on the country roads but a city would have made it more interesting.

From the end of the tunnel (0:14) to the Place de le Concorde (2:27). 133 seconds for 4km making it an average about 108km/h. Not overly impressive in itself, but the running of red lights just begs for disaster.

Rendezvous is still fun to watch, BUT I like this better...

Why didn't we ever get THIS Ford Escort in the states?? I love the sound of that Cosworth almost as much as I love the sound of sirens disappearing into the distance at 5:33
-
I saw a parked Mustang at 5:29!

Am I the only one who thinks illegal street racing is a stupid and dangerous idea? :uhoh
Why don't those Swedish youths take it to the track and see if they have any real skill? Any hack can blast down the highway full throttle till they kill themselves and maybe somebody else, racing head to head on real track takes a whole lot more skill, and is much, much safer too.

Some people do not get the thrill from a safe skillful race...they do it for the danger, it is a rush that is only satisfied with dangerous activities.

I totally understand adrenalin junkies, I'm a bit of one myself. But most adrenalin junkies get off on stuff like BASE jumping, or kayaking 100' waterfalls, or free climbing.... You know, activities where the only one in danger is themselves. Surely they can find something to get there kicks that's not putting everyone around them in danger too.
